will taking too much vitamin C tablets hurt me?

I have kinda bad acne and i heard vitamin C supplements can help your skin to be clear and smooth. I went to the store and bought a whole bottle of them and it says to take 1 daily, but i was wondering if I take like 10 of them will it make my skin clearer faster / will it hurt me?

  1. For adults, the recommended upper limit for vitamin C is 2,000 milligrams (mg) a day. Although too much dietary vitamin C is unlikely to be harmful, megadoses of vitamin C supplements can cause:

    * Diarrhea
    * Nausea
    * Vomiting
    * Heartburn
    * Abdominal cramps
    * Headache
    * Insomnia
    * Kidney stones

  2. There is no need to take 10 daily. I’m not sure about getting rid of your acne faster (it probably won’t) but you do increase your chances of developing kidney stones which hurt like hell.

  3. Yes. Excess vitamin C can cause: abdominal cramps, headache, insomnia, kidney stones

  4. No, it’s a water soluble vitamin and your kidneys will flush out the excess. You are probably referring to collagen for skin care which is prevalent in fruits, especially the skins, ie, apples.

    Acne is most often hormonal although good skin care is necessary. Don’t waste your money on "miracle" products, and remember too much skin care can actually cause more damage. If your acne is that troublesome you may benefit from a dermatological consultation, ask your parents advice.

    You don’t give your age but I assume you are in your teens. It’s probably no comfort but keep in mind many of your peers are dealing with the same issues so you’re not alone.

    You’ll be fine. It’s part of growing up.
