Will my skin be saggy during and after weight loss?

My name is Monica and I'm 22. I'm 5-4 and weight 306 lbs. I have always been on the heavy side but not morbidly obese. When I was 15, 16, and 17 me weight was steady at 190 lbs. I have gained over 100 lbs in 5 years. I have made my mind up to lose weight. I am getting the lap band surgery and want to lose one pound per week I want to lose it slow because it helps in preventing saggy skin. I want to lose 150 lbs so half my weight. I will be walking one hour everyday and joining a gym for body sculpting exercises with weights. I'm drinking three glasses of skim milk daily and taking fish oil vitamins. This is supposed to keep your skin tight so I heard. I am African American if that makes a difference no offense but our skin is tighter and firmer :-)

  1. It depends on how fast you lose the weight. If you lose a lot of weight very quickly, you will most likely have saggy skin. If you lose weight slowly (say, 1-2 pounds per week), your skin should work like elastic and "snap" back into shape. You can also use over-the-counter lotions from your local pharmacy to try to help encourage your skin to stay taught (however, I don’t know how much credibility any of those products really have). If you want to look at skin lotion, check out Mederma products.

A lot of times you’ll see gastric bypass patients with very saggy skin. Even contestants on The Biggest Loser often have saggy skin. This is because they have lost a LOT of weight in a very short period of time, about 10+ pounds per week. If you keep your weight loss nice and slow, you should be fine.

  2. Do you have stretch marks?? If so, then it has the potential to be saggy. Whether a person has saggy skin after weight gain and subsequent weight loss varies from person to person…I got stretch marks during pregnancy where I had gained 40 lbs and I never got my abs back even though I dropped all the extra weight:(. They say if you lose weight more slowly then you can reduce sagginess, but Im unsure. Drinking skim milk and taking fish oil vitamins can only help out. I would also use lots of cocoa butter too to make the skin softer.

As for the Af. Am. thing, I’ve seen Af. Am. with stretch marks and saggy skin especially on the lower back/love handle and underarm area especially when they are heavy. I don’t think it is related to race tbh. It all depends on good genes.

Anyway, good luck with that! Losing all the weight is great for your health even if some vanity issues do arise from it.

  3. You’d think that being black would mean that your skin would stay tighter after weight loss than women of other races due to oils on the face and melanin in the skin. Unfortunately, the melanin has nothing to do with scar tissue under the skin. This means that being black won’t protect you from saggy skin/stretch marks. In fact, African American skin is more prone to stretch marks and sagginess because it tends to get "ashy" and doesn’t stretch as well as other types of skin may. There are some exceptions where some people get lucky, but these exceptions exist in all races. Apparently trilastin stretch cream works wonders for this issue in black females

  4. Visit that site.you’ll solve your problems, believe me.
