Why won't my nails grow past the top of my nail!? Its piss*ng me off! Help!?!?

So my nails NEVER grow past the top of my nail. The longest they have EVER been was when I was sick about 7 weeks ago and the white bit was about _ < That long maybe.
But then I bit them because I was going through a really bad time.
But here's the thing. My nails are soo weak! They are so thin and I hate them! I want long, strong and beautiful nails like ALL of my friends do!
By the way, my dads nails are SOOOOO strong! They are long too LOL and he ruins our nail files. HAHA! My mums are strong and grow really long to. And my brothers... Well he has bitten them ALL his life so they are really crappy /=
All my life I have wanted long and beautiful nails. I try vitamin nail polish stuff. I try hand cream. Nothing works. And I can't go out and buy anything expensive. And I don't even think Sally Hansen long grow (or whatever it is) would work.
My mum was always so proud of me when I was little because I didn't bite my nails like all the other girls.
And now, I get so stressed sometimes that I bite them. If my nails were long, strong and beautiful, I would NEVER bite them... NEVER. *Huge dramatic pause*
I'm a vegetarian too and I don't think they would be stronger if I wasn't (I'm the only vegetarian in my family. I'm so proud =)
Soooo, what do you think I should do?
Should I give myself manicures every week? *Laughs sarcastically* If that will work.
*Sigh*
Obviously, if you can tell, I'm still young. And I'm so jealous of all of you who have beautiful nails!
Please help me.
xox
Clo- Sorry, but I said I was a vegetarian and I didn't want to spend loads of money.
When I say a lot of money I mean like 30-40 bucks haha.
Lloyd don't be such a jerk.

  1. I had the same problem! I also used to bite my nails, which made them very soft and weak.
And the biggest mistake: For my matric farewell dance, I put on fake nails, and THAT really ruined them!
But let me tell you what worked for me and maybe it will work for you too:

First, stop biting them altogether. Don’t even nibble. It doesn’t help to say that you won’t bite your nails if they were long and beautiful, but what you don’t get right now, is that they won’t get a chance to get strong and beautiful if you keep biting them. So stop.

Then, and i swear this worked like a bomb for me, try out some of the Sally Hansen products.
There are some products that only makes your nails strong (and it really does; I can’t even bend my nails anymore) and then there are products like "Maximum Growth" that makes nails strong while stimulating the growth.

I have beautiful long nails, something I thought would be impossible.
I also try to drink enough water each day and eat lots of dairy, but I could not say if that has anything to do with it.

    Good luck!

  2. You can get tablets, in places like Holland and Barrat, which help your nails as well as skin. You can take them daily, and they help your nails to become increasingly stronger, and grow more. Try not to use nail varnish remover with acetone, as this can weaken the nail too. Try to cut them regularly, as they will keep growing after a while. Try not to wear fake nails, as this can weaken them too. Try to take some vitamins or the skin hair and nail tablets. Also, if you eat a cube of jelly every day, this is supposed to help too. Good luck!

  3. dont bite your nails even when you are stressed! not only does it ruin any chance for your nails to be pretty, it raises your chances for staph infection and other things. try finding something else to help cope with stress.

i have a friend with the same problem, she said she paints her nails and that helps her stop biting them. she also gets acrylics sometimes but you said you dont wanna spend a lot of money…

  4. ….wow.

  5. because your parents never loved you
