Why the Vitamin D experts recommend 2000 IU per day?

The accepted AI for Vitamin D is 200 IU per day. However, many nutritionists are now calling for an increase of that number to 2000 IU per day. We know that megadoses of Vit-D can be toxic. Why, then, is the health community working to bring the daily intake to such a high level.

  1. Nobody uses the 200 IU recommendation any more. The most conservative one is 400 IU. The toxic level is up around 10,000 IU, and the usual recommendation is that you go no higher than 4,000 IU daily.

There are so many conditions that seem to improve with additional Vitamin D, and there are so many ways that people seem to be deficient (especially with avoiding exposure to the sun). So generally you should be taking around 2,000 IU per day. It may help, and it certainly isn’t going to hurt.

The article below is quite complicated, but should help you in evaluating Vitamin D as a supplement.

  2. The daily requirements of Vit D have not really changed. However, the amount people are getting from sources such as the sun and food are. With the campaign of never be out without sunscreen, and such, our ability to absorb vit D throught the skin has been greatly diminished. Therefore the daily requirement of supplemental vit D has increased. Please not more recent research has indicated that vit D plays a much more important role in our bodies than previously believed. For example, calcium needs adequate Vit D in order for it to be absorbed into our bones. too little Vit D plays a role in the development of osteoporosis.

  3. 4,000 a day covers your bones as you need vitamin d to activate your calcium and ward off viruses, as most healthy vitamin d takes dont need a ejaction of a vaccine to kill them instead of the flu. vitamin d is a flu killer not man made drugs with mercury in it
