Why is it that having a candy will increase your falling blood pressure?

My grandmother used to say that whenever you felt your blood pressure was falling (feeling dizzy/ lightheaded) you should either have a candy or put some salt under your tongue and your blood pressure would increase again. I'd like to understand what the physiological explanation to that is please.

  1. maybe she meant her blood sugar (??). If you feel light headed or dizzy, sometimes popping a candy or having a candy bar will bring you back to feeling normal because of the sugar surge. Never heard of it for blood pressure.

  2. Salt increases blood pressure.
The physiological explanation is that, Salt is also known as Sodium, the more sodium in your blood, the more blood volume increases because sodium attracts and retains water. As a result, the heart has to work harder to move the increased volume of blood through your blood vessels. This creates increased strain on the arteries and high blood pressure.

  3. if it is hypoglycemia candy may help you, if it is hypotension salt may help you.
