Why don't most people with depression know they are simply vitamin deficient?

One of those green superfood drinks and they'll feel better right away... American food is seriously vitamin deficient, even the fruits and vegetables which are grown in nutrient-poor soil.
Okay, I knew I would get a lot of arguments against this. So all I can say is it definitely worked for me and it wouldn't hurt to drink a bottle of the stuff and see what happens.

  1. That isn’t universally true. Proper diet is important to the treatment of mood disorders, but it’s not a cure.

  2. Because depression is a MEDICAL disease.
No…depression can’t be "cured" with vitamins or supplements and neither can any other disease….it says so right on the bottle of vitamins! They don’t cure anything nor do they claim to…they cannot!

Depression is caused by two things: it is endogenous (biochemical in the body and regulated by medication) or it is situational (in need of therapy and support).
Vitamins don’t cure cancer, heart disease, balding or dandruff….so please don’t attempt to tell people that they will.

  3. I really wish it was that easy. If that was the case, thousands of people would be running to the health food store as fast as they could.

It may help some (good nutrition is important for everyone) but it is not going to bring someone out of a deep depression. Usually an anti-depressant is needed.

I’m all for being healthier, but I do not believe this is the answer to overcoming a serious depression.

  4. Yea, I’m sure thats why we are all depressed, it’s just malnutrition. That’s why fat people are happy right. People in other country’s are just as depressed. We are in a recession and everything SUCKS! I have to work two jobs, I eat very healthy, lots of fruits and veggies and I even take a multivitamin. I have been severly depressed, not because of nutrition but because my life sucks! I’m pretty sure that’s why most people get depressed.

  5. Because most people with depression are not simply vitamin deficient. Many people with depression have tried nutritional therapies with no improvement. I am one of them.Your assumption is based on opinion and not fact.

  6. Sometimes depression is caused by non-physical factors
