Why can’t you stop taking High Blood Pressure medicine once you start?

I have been told that even if you lower your blood pressure, you have to continue the medications. Is this a farce?

  1. no. high blood pressure is known as the silent killer because there are no real signs or symptoms of it. if u r newly diagnosed hypertension (high blood pressure), depending on ur family history (it can be familial) and ur lifestyle (overweight? poor diet? smoking? alcoholic?), a doctor may try to have u do a lifestyle modification first. these include exercise, lose weight, less stress, eating healthy. if these fail, then u may be put on medication. failure to comply can result in complications such a cerebral hemorrhaging (brain bleed). this may manifest as severe headache or stroke. just think of it this way. ur circulatory system is closed. meaning if the pressure increases too much, something will have to give. imagine a garden hose with both ends blocked and the water pressure inside just keeps increasing. sooner or later, it will pop somewhere. anyway, once it gets to the point of medication, ur most likely on it for life so take care of urself now.

  2. I lowered my blood pressure and my doctor instructed me to stop taking medication. I was on it for about 3 years. It doesn’t make sense that you would keep taking a medication for a diagnosis which you do not have anymore.
