Which multivitamins/supplements are truly necessary?

With so many choices for multivitamins and supplements out there, what exactly should I be looking for in a multivitamin or supplement? A friend told me that walmart brand multivitamins don't do anything because they don't put enough vitamins and minerals in there. Whats the difference between that and something that costs 3x as much at a health food or vitamin store? Are the expensive ones truly necessary, or is it ok to take something from walmart?

Also, which supplements are necessary? I take flax/fish/borage oil supplements every day in addition to my multivitamins. Ive also heard things about probiotics and digestive enzymes. Are those good to take as well? What types, or doesn't it matter? If anyone is a dietician who can specifically explain the difference in vitamins and supplements, that would be great!

  1. Well the brand I use most often is called Natures Plus. I buy it at my local health food store. I always buy from there instead of wal mart because Ive heard the same as you. I take a multivitamin along with a calcium pill(most people dont get enough) Also I suggest taking acidophulis( great for digestion). L lysine is good for your immunity. Also a super B complex vitamin is great for overall health and energy. I gave you a list of the ones I take but it really depends on the way you eat. You may already be getting enough nutrients. Hope I helped somewhat and good luck :)

  2. If you eat right there is no need for any supplements or vitamins. To answer your question none are truly necessary.
