When's the best time to take vitamins?

Vitamin C supplements.
Vitamin E supplements
Multivitamin Supplements.
Glucosamine Chondroitin supplements.

I know it usually says take one to three pills, 2-3 times a day, but they don't say what time.
Is it safe to take before sleeping. I don't want my bladder to fill up with vitamin C and I get stones.

  1. Multivitamin are usually taken once daily. The multivitamin probably contains both vitamin C and E so you might want to make sure your doctor wants you to take additional C and E.

Vitamin C usually comes in the form of ascorbic acid. According the Epocrates, the both can store approx. 1500mg of ascorbic acid. Anything above that would be a waste for you to take. Also, the recommended daily amount of Vitamin C is usually 60mg daily. (I’m not exactly sure on how much ascorbic acid is actually vit. C). Vitamin C is also water soluble so most anything unused by your body will be excreted in your urine (so it doesn’t pay to take an excess).

Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin, meaning it can be stored in your fat tissues. The amount recommended daily depends on your age, gender, pregnancy, breastfeeding, etc. Be careful not to take too much because it could cause some serious reactions if too much is built up in the body.

  2. I have read from various sources that it is always best to take them at meal times. Certain vitamins can be upsetting to an empty stomach.
