  1. Hair is made of a protein called keratin—one of the toughest tissues in the body—so diets deficient in protein can result in fine hair that’s prone to breaking.Most of us eat enough proteins but some fatty and extreme diets may be low in this nutrient.Meanwhile,hair loss may indicate anaemia,a condition caused by a lack of iron but may also be because of a deficiency of a vitamin called biotin.
    Avoid fatty diets and instead opt for low calorie balanced diet that contains protein rich foods like meat,fish,eggs and low fat dairy products.To boost iron eat lean red meat,oil rich fish,bread,green leafy vegetables,peas,lentil,beans,dried fruit,eggs and fortified breakfast cereals.To up your intake of biotin eat more pulses,nuts,whole grains,eggs and low fat dairy products.Alternately,to have thick and healthy hair in terms of vitamin tablets & capsules,you may take one iron capsule,one tablet biotin-10mg.and a capsule of vitamin B-complex each day.

    Some foods you should add to your diet to have shiny, bouncy and voluminous hair-
    Dried fruit and nuts:

    Dry fruits for lustrous hairThese must form a part of your daily breakfast and snacks. Either you take a few nuts – almonds, walnuts, cashews, pistachios – with milk in the morning or simply keep chewing on them during the day, but ensure you do not miss out on these. Because, these nuts come packed with a whole lot of nutrients, including iron, that plays a main role in the making of healthy hair. Besides, dry fruits are good sources of Vitamin E which enhances blood circulation on the scalp, and maintains healthy hair follicles. Walnuts are also a great source of zinc, as are cashews, and almonds. Zinc deficiency can lead to hair shedding.

    * Dark Green Vegetables:

    Green leafy vegetablesDr Batra lays special emphasis on iron when he says, “iron deficiency is the main cause of most hair problems. And this is why including green leafy vegetables in the diet becomes pertinent as they are rich sources of iron”. Dark green veggies, include spinach (palak), fenugreek (methi), broccoli, etc. all of which are very good sources of iron as well as calcium. In fact, spinach and broccoli, being good sources of vitamins A and C, also help the body in producing sebum – an oily substance that acts as the body’s natural conditioner.

    * Fruits:
