What vitamins and minerals are contained in Chlorella and Spirulina?

I know chlorella and spirulina contain a lot of vitamins and minerals, but which ones and at which levels typically? Example: I don't want to take chlorella or spirulina with a vitamin E content of 600 IU if I'm already taking a multivitamin with 400 IU of vitamin E, etc., etc.

  1. It has most all the basic vitamins and minerals (A, C, D, E, the B complex, Calcium, etc, etc)… but it has very little of most of them. For example, the CofA we have for our Chlorella points out that the Iron is around 23% and Manganese is around 8% of the RDA, but most of the rest are around 2% or less of the RDA per daily dose. With the Vitamins, it’s much better that it’s got 52% of the RDA of Beta Carotene, almost 300% of Vitamin D, 160% of Vitamin E (which is around 48 IU… nothing to brag about), and a few times the RDA of most of the B Vitamins, but it’s pretty low on Vitamins B-3, C, K, B-5, Folic Acid, and Biotin.

Spirulina has similar numbers (not too much of anything and really low levels of some of them) so it’s nowhere near what you would find in a multivitamin, nor could you subsist on either one for any extended period of time, but it does give some of the basics. The Iron is enough of a concern that you shouldn’t take much more than the daily recommendation, but you won’t have to worry about taking Chlorella or Spirulina with a multivitamin at all. I hope I helped!
