What supplements should I be taking along with birth control?

I've been taking a multivitamin that has 400 IU (100%) of Vitamin D, 400 mcg (100%) of Folic Acid, and 225 mg (23%) of Calcium. It contains a lot more vitamins and minerals, but I was told that these 3 are the essential ones a woman needs to have extra of when on birth control. However, I read online that I should be focusing on a multivitamin that has A LOT of calcium in it, since birth control affects the bones indirectly.

Should I switch my multivitamin to something with more Calcium, or should I stick to the one that I am currently taking. Your answers are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  1. B vitamins are also essential to women who take the pill. The pill can sap many of the B Vitamins.

Even though I take a multi-vitamin I also have a bottle of B Complex which helps to cover the other B vitamins that I may need.

I would recommend checking with your doctor as well to see what they say.
