What is the best vitamin for my husband?

My husband is almost 54, active, arthritis in his neck (developed over the years after auto injuries), occasional stomach upsets, but otherwise healthy, and not overweight or underweight. He eats very well-balanced meals for lunch and dinner, and has snacks also, but often skips breakfast, sometimes 4 or 5 days out of the week. He takes a multivitamin with minerals every morning before he goes to work with a glass of fruit juice, along with some extra vitamin C, vitamin D3, and a low strength aspirin. We have tried lots of different brands of multivitamins that seem to work at first, but after a while he wants to try another one because he feels it doesn't work any more (for example: energy level gets lower). Any suggestions?

One more thing: We like to try to stay with products that are more toward the natural side, or that add natural herbs, etc. The multivitamin he is taking now is a brand called "Rainbow Light - Men's One (Gentle on the stomach)"

Thanks in advance for your help!

  1. He should eat something for breakfast every morning. If not it can mess with is blood sugar, blood pressure and metabolism. You have no idea how much not eating breakfast affects you. Most people don’t take that seriously but no one should skip breakfast on a regular basis. It can cause health issues.

Plus he needs to be eating before he takes those vitamins, that’s probably why he gets upset stomachs. Those vitamins will eat away at his stomach lining. So he eather needs to eat with the vitamins or take them at lunch instad of in the morning.

The vitamins aren’t going to boost his energy and do all of that crap, they just help your body get the nutrients it needs. That’s it. If he wants more engery go for a run or have a cup of coffee. Vitamins aren’t going to do that for him. Plus he should try eating breakfast and THAT will give him more daily energy.

He doesn’t need any vitamins different than what he has now. He just needs to adjust his sleep, or eat breakfast.

  2. It’s okay to taking a multivitamin with minerals but it’s better if you take them with a meal. Most of the vitamins are water soluble and will leave your body through urination but if they are taken with food they will last longer and do their job more effectively. However vitamins will not help much to give you energy. A lack of certain vitamins can cause you to lose energy but it’s rare to be that deficient in a vitamin. Food is the best way to get your energy so a good balanced diet is important. These big companies that advertise vitamins as being good for certain ailments are very misleading and full of hype. You’ll do just as well buying the Walmart brands (which I myself use) but don’t expect miracles from vitamin supplements. If your hubby wants more energy have him go out and take a walk every day and you can go with him. You’ll be surprised what a little exercise can do. We are not made to be couch potatoes.
