What is normal for a drop in blood pressure from lying down to standing?

So my doctor said that after I stood up, my blood pressure dropped 28 points. How much does most people's blood pressure drop after they stand up?
The doctor seemed to think it was abnormal, but he was a neurologist not a cardiologist. I am going to see a cardiologist next. I just wonder what is the normal range for a blood pressure drop. Does anyone know?

  1. Siva is correct, it shouldn’t drop more than 20 points. If it does, it means you are suffering for orthostatic hypotension…basically just low blood pressure from positioning. Your blood pressure drops when you stand because your hearts trying to push against the gravity to get the blood to your head. The bigger the point difference, the higher chance you have of passing out.

  2. Yes. Normal.

It varies from person to person. I can depend on a lot of things.

  3. It’s normal and it is different for everyone as to how much it drops. As long as your body is able to restabilize quickly you are fine.

  4. This means you are normal. I have high blood pressure and mine does just the opposite. It goes down when I lay down and up when I stand. Your OK.
