What is a normal DAILY range for blood pressure?

My blood pressure seems to jump around from 140 over 83 to 160 over 100 in the course of one day. Does this seem like a normal pattern? The higher number doesn't stick around for very long. In an hour or less I could be down to 140 over 90 or lower. Also, I am just recovering from mold inhalation from an unmaintained humidifier, which caused asthma like symptoms for about 2 weeks. Could this be whats causing these weird bp readings?

  1. Who is reading your blood pressure? Some automatic reading aren’t accurate. Also, in the course of a day, blood pressure does fluctuate as you become more active, stressed, etc. It seems like your blood pressure is going high and you should see a doctor about it, especially if you have family history of high blood pressure or if you have other conditions. Normal range is about 120/80, so yours is borderline high to high with the readings you gave. It could be stress, as people without hypertension have high readings from time to time, but only a doctor can diagnose it. If the asthma like symptoms already went away and the high blood pressure just started, I doubt it is the cause. Hope you feel better.

  2. 120/70 or 130/80 better to ask your dr.

  3. I understood the ideal blood pressure to be about 120/75 – the figures you are mentioning seem rather high.

I would question the wisdom of having a sphignonometer without being able to correctly interprete the results though. Would recommend you consult your GP as you would be best with qualified medical advice rather than a group of hopefully well meaning but unknown charlatans including me! ;)
