  1. There are several things that you can do, I had this problem when a knee injury stopped me from exercising.

    1) Diet.
Reduce the amount of salt you eat, avoid processed food as this tends to contain large amounts of salt, some packets of dried soup can contain more than your daily allowance of 6g.
    Reduce the amount of fat.
Increase fresh fruit and vegetables, try to vary your diet so that you get a wide selection of fruit and vegetables which will provide the range of nutrients that you need.
Limit the amount of alcohol you drink, and try to have 3 or more days a week where you don’t have any.

    2) Exercise
Increase the amount of exercise. Some other answers have suggested walking, but you need to get your heart rate higher, and walking won’t do that.
Try jogging, cycling or swimming, these will increase your heart rate, and improve your blood flow, which will ease the high blood pressure. Aim for at least 3 sessions of up to an hour every week, but try to increase this to 5 times a week, with a total training time of 6 to 7 hours.

    3) Medication.
Make sure that you tale the medication that has been prescribed to you.

If you follow these suggestions, then I’m sure that you will control your blood pressure, at least they worked for me. I’m surprised that your doctor didn’t make these suggestions to you when he prescribed your medication, since medication alone is only masking the problem, not curing the cause.

  2. take an aspirin a day along with fish oil..

  3. You could consider asking your doctor if you need a new prescription. Also, there are various stress relieving exercises you can do that with stimulate your parasympathetic nervous system, which is the part of your autonomic nervous system that makes you "calm"

  4. Try long walks, which may be boring but helpful. Also, try melatonin, a very cheap drug found in most pharmacies, to help keep you calmer and your mind more at ease. You must be as vulnerable to stress as the rest of us mortals. Stay away from regular salt and use sea salt if you like the taste. If you feel isolated, try finding friends that don’t stress you out and enjoy simple things like scrabble, chess, or video games maybe.

  5. When the doctor told me I was on the threshold of needing medication, I got dramatic results taking a combination of aspirin (250mg a day, fish oil 2 x 1000mg, and a capsule called Co-enzyme10 (1 a day) – the product I had was an oil and marketed as EnQ10 but there are many brands . In 4 weeks, I was back down to 125/80. BTW, I purchased an electronic self-inflating blood pressure monitor and used it first up every morning and I could see the pressure actually going down.

  6. Hello Jay ….

I have been there ; done that. Some things I have found that worked were :

( 1 ) Take long walks in places you find comforting and serene. Your area has
many such places to get away from it all.

( 2 ) Get a kitten and sit down and enjoy the very special softness of
a sweet little kitten. A puppy also might work. Animal therapy for
    humans can be very successful.

( 3 ) Consider acupuncture. It can do wonders.

( 4 ) Limit intake of foods and drinks with tendency to raise BP.

( 5 ) Take blood pressure pill each day.

Jay , I wish you the best.

  7. Hello Jaymax173, in addition to your blood pressure medication, you can do the following to lower it:

    1. Change your diet

Reduce excessive salt intake and foods with high cholesterol & saturated fat. Eat more fruits and vegetables that can lower blood pressure, for example like oatmeal, spinach, and black-eyed peas (rich in magnesium) or fish, tomatoes, yogurt, and bananas (contain potassium). You can google more about DASH (dietary approach to stop hypertension) if you want to.

    2. Be more active

Do aerobic exercises to strengthen your heart. You can do things like mowing the lawn, stair climbing, rope jumping, swimming, etc.

    3. Stop smoking & alcohol

Smoking can narrow your blood vessels, and alcohol can affect your kidney that will eventually lead to higher blood pressure.

    4. Meditate

Relax and meditate, so you will reduce your high blood pressure.

    5. Have a pet

Pets can lower your blood pressure, and they may also improve your health mentally. Pets can even make a heart attack patient survive longer.
