what are some effects of not taking vitamins supplements at all?
My daughter is 13 years old, and she won't take any vitamin supplements at all. She mainly eats junk food, and I'm urging her to take the supplements to get the nutrients that a teen needs.
How can I make her take the vitamins, and what are the effects of a teen not taking vitamin supplements ?

I would suggest, first of all, not to get into any fights with her
over anything at all, if possible. I know its a difficult age and you can’t force her to do anything. You can try either buying fortified food (bread, milk etc. whatever she likes eating only look for the fortified product). Also there are certain vitamins that come in drops. If she eats any milk products try putting some drops in it before she notices. On the whole, the kids grow up one way or the other and one day they come to their senses and will eat healthy food, just let go its best for you. You are wasting your energy on a teenager? LOL

If you are the supplier of the junk food, then slowly start replacing the junk with more healthy snacks like dehydrated and fresh vegetables and fruits, and whole grain crackers.
Buy those meal replacement bars and drinks too. Teens often don’t want to spend time on eating, and these might help her to make healthier choices.
She doesn’t need to take suppliments if she eats nutritional foods. Also know that taking vitamins/suppliments don’t cure any wrongs from bad eating habits. The bad habits should be replaced with good eating habits, period, for overall good health.
If she’s having some issues with fatigue, irritability, poor concentration, disrupted sleep or insomnia, then you should take her to your family physician right away. Deficiencies cause these and other health related problems. Your family doctor can explain to you both what a well balanced meal is, and what kinds of snacks are good for you.

Raw fresh and dried fruits are delicious and they taste just as good even if they are "good" for a kid’s health. They probably taste better when not mother-recommended.

What about Flinstones’ chewables…seriously ? They’re good for teens, too. If she won’t take those, either…just slip some Ensure into her chocolate milk. If she doesn’t drink chocolate milk…then try those fortified bars. If she is so picky as to not try any of these suggestions…so be it. She’ll be okay and when she’s an adult it’ll be her decision, anyway. She’s 13, so she doesn’t have all that long to go before becoming an adult. Explain to her WHY you want her to take supplements and WHY they are good for you and what they prevent. They also make you feel better physically and emotionally. I’ve observed this from years of taking them.
