Vitamins (pre-pregnancy), what's good, bad and how much?

Before hubby and I are considering children. I want to better myself with vitamins.

Currently I purchased: Evening primrose oil 500mg (linoleic acid- 700mg; gamma linoleic acid- 80mg) and Flaxseed oil 1200mg (omega3-540mg; omega6-132mg; omega9-132mg) to go with my one-a-day multi (that contains 400mcg of folic acid and 450mcg of calcium).

Can I take 3 EPO's, 1 Flax and 2 multi (for extra calcium), each day?
Will that be too much of omega-6?
Should I take 1 multi and opt for an additional calcium vitamin?

  1. Vitamins are a waste of time unless you are actually pregnant. If you eat 3 times a day -most of the food categories- you will have more than enough vitamins in your body. When you do get pregnant you need to consult your Dr. about what vitamins you should be taking since you will need more than what is normally expected.

If you do decide to waste your money on multi/vitamins, never ever take more than one multi vitamin in one day. You can overdose on fat soluble vitamins, all the others just make your urine expensive.
I also see no reason to be taking 3 EPOs. Generally the servings for a vitamin are in one pill per day.

Too much of a good thing could be a bad thing.
