Vitamins make my stomach sick?

I'm 22 years old. Ever since I graduated from flinstone chewables, my stomach has always been sick from vitamins! No matter what brand of multi vitamin I buy, or what 'special type' (For women, etc..)... it always upsets my stomach.

I've tried taking the vitamin in the morning after a meal (becuase I know some vitamins need water to break down and others need fat)...I've tried taking them before the meal, I've tried this at lunch time and as well as at dinner time... No matter when I take it - what time of day or before/after a meal...it makes my stomach sick.

I have younger siblings (7, 8, and 9 years old) and last year for christmas I put Scooby Doo gummy vitamins in their stockings... I also bought a bottle for myself(forgot what brand, a popular multi vitamin brand)... These vitamins do NOT hurt my stomach at all! I can take them at any time of day and I'm completely fine.

It says for children over 12&adults chew 2 gummies a day.
Do you think that I'm still getting nutrients from these gummies? Or am i wasting my money?

***ALSO, calcium especially makes my stomach sick. All calcium supplements that I've tried. If I'm drinking and eating food with fortified calcium, am I okay in that department? I do not like milk but I buy calcium fortified orange juice and bread and pasta, and I eat yogurt almost every day. Do I need an additional suppliment?

  1. It’s good that you are trying to make sure that you are getting all the vitamins you need, but if you are eating fairly normally and not leaving too many things out of your diet, you probably don’t need a multivitamin. Your body absorbs vitamins better from food than from a pill, and if you are getting all that your body needs from your food, your body will just get rid of the excess. In that case, all the pills really do is make you have really expensive pee. So, if the vitamins are making you that miserable, you’ve never had a doctor tell you that you need to take a specific supplement for medical reasons, and you eat fairly normally, I don’t think you have anything to worry about by taking the chewable gummies instead of the "adult" vitamins.

  2. All the medics and nutritionists say targeted weight loss is not possible, especially in the waist and belly zones, but I achieved it with acai berry. I acknowledge they say that pills will not work, however they certainly worked for me, and they have been featured on CBS News too. There’s a free trial on at the moment at http://pudeks.easynutritiondiet.info , try it, what’s the worst that could happen?

  3. It could be the iron content of the vitamins. It can be really hard on a persons stomach. I take 2 vitamin pills a day, but I have to take one with lunch and the other with dinner, otherwise I get severe stomach pain.

  4. If it says adults take 2 then you most likely will be getting what you need by taking the gummies or flinstones. If you’re not quite convinced by that then compare the backs of the labels and see if you are getting all the things the adult vitamins give vs. the children’s.

Calcium supplements, just like vitamins are for people who do not get enough through the foods you eat/drink. It sounds like you are getting enough with the yogurt, fortified orange juice etc., Plus I’m sure the kiddie vitamins would have some calcium in them too.
