Taking Vitamins – What to Add and What to Cut Out?

I'm 21 years old, and I plan on continuing working out a few times a week. I have been taking a multivitamin (Target Men's Daily Multivitamin w/ Lycopene) for a while now, but I'd like to introduce a few extras. I have planned:

NatureMade Super B-Complex (with Vitamin C [only 150 mg] & Folic Acid)
Time Release Vitamin C 500 mg
Fish Oil 1000 mg (I have poor circulation to my extremities)

I also plan on taking:

Ginkgo Biloba 120 mg
Fiber Capsules

For the record my multivitamin contains:
Vitamin A: 3500 IU
Vitamin C: 90 mg
Vitamin E: 45 IU
and then roughly 100% of the Thiamin, Riboflavin, other vitamin B's, etc.

Any information would be highly appreciated. I understand that you do not need multivitamins if you eat properly, but I guess that's why they call them "supplements."

  1. All you need is a good multi vitamin with minerals and make sure you get enough essential fatty acids which can be taken in a large capsule form generally called "EFA’s" (which includes fish oil.) Also, make sure you get enough calcium. As we get older, our bodies become less able to absorb calcium so we need to increase calcium intake.

The fiber won’t hurt, nor would the Ginkgo.

Seek out a better multi vitamin/mineral supplement than the Target brand. Solgar is a good brand. Also make sure you take the vitamin supplements with a full meal. If you don’t do this and you have no fat in your stomach, your body will not absorb the fat soluble vitamins in the supplement.

  2. cut out the ginkgo…switch the vitamin c to a 1000

    b complex is great!
