Does a multi vitamin have all the vitamins you need? Should you be taking additional targeted vitamins?

I know you can be deficient in certain areas (like Vitamin D, etc), so I understand taking an extra dose in those cases. But in general, is taking extra vitamin C or anything else a waste of time since the multivitamin has the needed amounts? Any recommendations for supplements to take on top of the mult? Thanks! Andrew

Why is there too much Vitamin A in multivitamins when they are fat-soluble?

From what I know, I thought taking in too much Vitamin A can be toxic to the body. Then how come almost all multivitamins contain at least 200%. Is it safe if I take in a multivitamin with this much Vitamin A? Also I'm 15 years old.

Anybody with knowledge of vitamins and their absorption?

According to this article, are vitamins with sustained release beneficial or not? To me, this article is somewhat unclear.

http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/abstract/9/3/324

My multivitamin has sustained release and instructs to "take two tablets daily, preferably with a meal." For optimal effects, I am wondering if I should take two tablets of my multivitamin at the same time or in 12-hour intervals.

Please explain the article's opinion, as well as your professional opinion.

Thanks.

How much is too much of a vitamin?

I am trying to improve the appearance of my skin. If say I take a multivitamin supplement that gives me 100% of say vitamin C, then I drink I can of V8 vegetable juice which contains 80%, plus other foods throughout the day that may contain it, is that a bad thing since I am exceeding 100%?

anything harmful that would happen when taking laxatives and vitamins at one hour interval?

If I take a laxative stuff at like.. 9PM and then and a multivitamin + anti-oxidant pill an hour or two after, is it going to be harmful? Or will the vitamins would just be useless?
added:
actually no option on which to take in the morning or night... both are recommended to be taken before sleepy time.
