weight loss: How quick should it come off?
I have made changes in my eating habits and was wondering how fast I should see the weight come off. I am 38 year old female. I have cut out pop/soda all together. I am not eating past 7:30 p.m. and watching what I eat. I am a very busy woman and eat on the go a lot. So I am trying not to eat fast food at all. If I do I try to make it a healthy choice. I also take Levothyroxine for hypothyroidism and a B complex vitamin.
effective weight loss tips?
how many times a week should i work out?
what kind of foods should i eat? (baked, grilled, sauteed, etc)
how often should i weigh myself?
i don't drink 8 glasses of water. instead i drink 2-3 1L bottles of Smart Water a day, is that okay?
Is it safe to drink juice? gatorade? vitamin water?
what key foods should i avoid during a diet?
how long should a diet last?
i feel that the answers to these questions would be my key to help me lose weight that i'd wanna lose.
another thing is, if i monitor my weight by keeping a log of my progress and foods i eat, how do i know the amount of calories i'm intaking?
for example; the foods we eat are normally homecooked so i wouldn't know what the calories of grilled steak, sauteed asparagus, with mashed potatoes and/or green beans is.
does chewing gum satisfy hunger cravings?
i'm quickly trying to get my eating habits back on track as i am going to be going back to school soon and beginning a job. if allowing to splurge, how often should be allowed? i have a thing for caffeine that i've been slowing breaking as well.
thanks for all advice! any extra tips are welcome.
My weight loss journey or something like that..
My first question....ever....
Alright then, I had terrible eating habits. I used to eat an entire pizza in less than 3 seconds or crap loads of crap (junk food) and pretty much sit on my ass and play video games all day, smoke..stuff...you get the point.
Okay so to the real thing, I'm 5 7 and weigh 157 lbs. I've been exercising for the past 2 weeks regularly everyday. I run about 2 miles a day, do about 40 reps with 25 lbs dumb bells, and about 20 minutes of hardcore boxing action with me and my lovely heavy bag. I wanna' know if this is enough to help me lose about...15 lbs in a moderate time (say 2-3 months). I don't care if it's less than 15 lbs, I just wanna' see some changes. I don't really eat junk food anymore, have started eating fruits, taking vitamin tablets and such. This is actually a pretty big lifestyle change for me, so any supportive-ish answer or stuff will be pretty helpful, or even tips.
What vitamins should an underweight, almost 21yr old women take?
I'm almost 21 years old and don't weight a lot what so ever, but i do eat a great deal so its nothing to do with my eating habits but not sure if i should start taking a vitamins or not..i read prenatal aren't good for someone who isn't pregnant and to many vitamins may not be good for someone my age..any suggestions?
Vitamin B12 Deficiency or French Polio?
So, about 3 years ago, my mom began to eat much less than one probably should. I’m talking about less than 1,000 calories on a daily basis. It may have started as depression after the death of her mother in 2002 and then father and brother just months prior to her changing her eating habits, but after losing some weight, she began to eat even less, perhaps in attempt to lose more weight. She was 250 lbs at the time and has since then lost about 75 lbs. She does so by eating as little as she can, no more than approx. 300-400 calories on most days. It’s not as though she counts calories, but comes up with excuses such as why something doesn’t taste any good, having a late lunch being a reason not to have dinner, or eating half of virtually everything she eats, no matter how small.
Anyway, although I have noticed signs of nutritional deficiency for a long time, last month she began to complain about not having the strength to walk and about how her hands and feet were numb. As time progressed, things have only gotten worse. The numbness has spread up her arms and legs, in addition to experiencing tingling and a sharp pain, especially in her feet. She also complained about the loss of feeling in her hands. I have also noticed her muscles almost becoming as jelly. She now cannot so much as lift herself up and it is extremely difficult for her to stand up just for a moment to get in a wheel chair.
She began visiting a chiropractor a few weeks ago. He thought she might have MS, and suggested she visit a neurologist. They did multiple tests, including scans and blood tests. They concluded she was dangerously low in potassium as well as folic acid. She will need to take supplements. However, that doesn’t appear to be causing her problems. I’m almost certain she’s deficient in other nutrients as well. Recently, she was told that she didn’t have MS and suggested that she had French polio. French polio is characterized by the loss of myelin which surrounds nerve cells. This causes the symptoms I covered earlier. However, these symptoms also describe vitamin b12 deficiency. I’m no doctor, but I’m led more to believe she is suffering from protein and b12 deficiency rather than polio or ms, based on how I know she’s already deficient in several if not more essential nutrients.
I am just worried that if they treat her for having polio, that they’ll be ignoring the cause of the problem. What do I do? I may be wrong, but it wouldn’t be the first time a specialist would be wrong either. I had an ENT specialist treat me several years ago. I knew for a fact that I just had temporary damage to my ears after being around loud noise. He tried to convince me I had allergies in my ears. He was so off the mark. My point is, more often than not, they can’t be trusted. Do I trust my instincts? What kind of tests need to be done for b12 deficiency, and wouldn’t they have caught it when they did other blood tests? Do you know anyone who experienced the above symptoms? What was the diagnosis?
Fasting for weight loss?
So I am planning to fast for a week and lemon juice with honey and water (no solid foods). However, I've heard many times that as soon as one gets off a fast, they will regain the weight back and more. I don't completely agree with this though. Yes, you will regain the weight if you go back to your regular eating habits, but what if you restrict your calorie intake, modify your diet and incorporate a lot of vitamin dense, low calorie foods such as lean meats and vegetables? Is the weight loss sustainable in that case? Any thoughts on this? Also, if anyone has done a fast, please tell me how it went.
Lisa Cotton — CIGNA Customer Experience
www.cigna.com | CIGNA's Video Customer Experience Series | Lisa Cotton always thought she had another day before needing to become accountable for her health and lifestyle management. It wasn't until after receiving a blood pressure check during a Health Awareness Day held at her workplace, Ferguson that Lisa realized "another day" was today. "There was a history of heart problems and diabetes in my family," said Lisa. "I was in treatment for my diabetes; however I wasn't vigilant about taking medication or watching what I ate." At a Health Awareness Day, Lisa walked by an empty biometric testing area and asked the nurse for a blood pressure check. Then reality hit. Haunted by the doctor's words "you could possibly be having a stroke or a heart attack," Lisa immediately scheduled an appointment with her doctor that evening. While in the doctor's office her blood pressure continued to rise and she ended up spending the night in the hospital on a nitroglycerin drip. Lisa's close call inspired her to take advantage of Ferguson's wellness program, Positive Steps. By utilizing CIGNA's online stress and weight management tools and working with the Positive Steps team, Lisa regained control of her health by establishing healthy eating habits and a healthy lifestyle. What is a good weight loss plan for someone that doesn't eat a lot of meat?
What diet plan works best for someone who doesn't eat a lot of meat?
I am trying to lose weight, but have very poor eating habits. I don't have the money for a nutritionist, and also have to think of my kids and what they want to eat. I don't like meat, and don't eat it very often, which leads me to believe that I may be missing some important components(protein, and others) from my diet. I do take a multi-vitamin. I would like to start this ASAP. Does anyone know any websites that would give me diet/meal plans that are both kid friendly and healthy. It seems that all we eat are chicken nuggets, fish sticks,a nd pizza!
