Experience with Neural Tube Defect or AFP Test?
I'm 21 weeks pregnant and my doctor called me today with the results of my AFP (alpha fetaprotein) test and told me that they indicated my baby is positive for a neural tube defect (my AFP level was elevated). She also told me that there are alot of false positives with this test and the rate of false positives is 1 in 75. I have no history of neural tube defect in my family, I am 20 years old, my husband is 22 and has no history of this in his family, I was taking prenatal vitamins with folic acid for three months before I conceived, and my doctor did not notice any abnormalities in the baby at my 19 week scan. Does anyone have a similar experience or any information on neural tube defects or false positives with an AFP blood test in the second trimester that they can share? I'm really worried and I cannot get in to have a high definition ultrasound until next Wednesday. Any information would be highly appreciated!

How to ask to be tested for a Vitamin D deficiency?
I have a lot of symptoms that match up to those of a Vitamin D deficiency. I am going in to my doctor today, and I want to ask to have this blood test done (numerous other blood tests have been done with no conclusion as to why I feel the way I do). How do I best bring it up? My doctor is...how do I say this, sort of an idiot-but my insurance is military so I cant change at the moment.
Thanks.
How long after starting taking multivitamins does it take for blood tests to register the vitamins?
By that I mean... I want to go to the doctor for a blood test, but I want it to reflect what my blood is like when Ive taken vitamins. Get it?
Help! Teenage girl with Iron and Vitamin D Deficiencies…?
I just had a blood test at my physical, and my iron level is one percent above the anemic line, and my vitamin d was at 25 and should be 40+...So, my doctor told us to go buy vitamins. My mom bought One A Day Teenage Advantage. Can you tell me if this will help, or anything else that will help. *We were signaled to test for this because I am always tired, and have headaches.
* And I do eat healthily and exercize.
I have anemia because of a vitamin b 12 deficiency, what are the best foods to raise it up with?
Like my post says I was diagnosed with mild anemia, about 2 weeks ago. So far the doctors told me not to worry and to eat more green vegetables. Then after a few months to come back and take a new blood test to see if things have improved. She gave me an explanation that confused me a bit (she had a pretty thick accent), but the gist is that I'm not getting enough vitamin b12, and I think folic acid, I'm not too sure about that one. But for certain I need more vitamin b12. So does anyone know which foods would be for me? Please be specific.(i.e. don't put down"eat green veggies")
Why do I have a bad body odor?
I have a problem with my smell. I can't smell it but everyone around me can, except for my family. I think the smell started when I was about 12 and I can't take it anymore! My social life is completely crushed because I am embarresed to go near people and they don't want to get near me. I get weird comments and whispers all the time. It's so embarresing because I don't know what to do about it. I shower and wash twice a day, wash my clothes, don't eat spicey foods, stay hydrated, and have a very clean life. I just recently had a comprehensive blood test and everything came back normal except for slightly low magnesium, but I take a vitamin and folic acid everyday. Everyone says that my house smells really nice, but somehow I don't. One other thing is that once in a while, I will get really hot. It's like a hot flash, but I'm young. I don't know if that could have anything to do with the smell. Anyway, please help! I can't go through my whole life like this.
