Hi everyone. My name is Karen and this is my journey through weight loss and weight loss surgery. The good, the bad and the ugly. I am turning 40 this year and I wanted to do something for myself to let go of the past. Please be warned this video contains pictures which may offend or disgust some people so be warned. This journey is my lifetime journey. I have been obese all my life even as a very tiny child as young as 2-3 years old. I reached a massive 138 kgs or 300+ pounds and was literally DYING. I had type 2 diabetes which I have had since I was 15 years old and was taking over 100 units of insulin a day to control my blood sugar levels. I had high blood pressure, cellulitis, back pain, joint pain etc etc. I needed to do something. After 38 years of being morbidly obese I decided I had no choice but have lap band surgery. It was this or die. The doctors had already told me I would be dead by 40 if I didn't lose some major weight. My children were only 1 + 2 years old. I didn't want to leave them on this earth alone. I am a single mother. Who would take care of them???? On December 19th 2008 I had the surgery and have never looked back. It has not been an easy road to travel, I pretty much am almost unable to eat many solid foods. I suffer with vomiting a lot of the time when food gets stuck or I stress out and my band tightens up, but I would do it again a million times over if it means I get to stay here with my children.
