Seniors, How about the new study that today's kids have a vitamin D deficiency?
Buy them Vitamin D supplements, or better yet, get them away from the computer, out of the house and into the sunshine.
Wow, there's a novel concept.

I grew up in an era where kids played in the dirt…outdoors! Heaven forbid! (Sarcasm here). Now society wants to shrink wrap/bubble wrap kids into fat lazy, pale creatures with weak immune systems and no creative imaginations. Perhaps humans will just morph into their computers someday.

Unfortunately, it’s not just a Vitamin D deficiency.

In efforts to protect children in the past 25 years, we’ve probably over sunscreened them, over anti-bioticked them, over vitamined them, over fed them, over esteemed them, and over protected them. As a result we’ll probably be seeing a growing number of pale overweight adults with antibiotic resistant infections who are afraid to live life. But they’ll all have very high self-esteem.

How about the simple fact that they drink soda instead of milk?

Deficiency results in impaired bone mineralization, and leads to bone softening diseases, rickets in children.
To make vitamin D, cholesterol is necessary…… imagine that cholesterol could be good for something.
When vitamin D deficiency continues for many months in growing children, the disease commonly referred to as rickets will occur. I have a friend who had that and was given up for adoption because his parents could not afford the surgery needed to save his life.

My father was stationed in the Philippines during WWII, and said that the mothers there would let their toddlers play outside naked to catch the rays of the sun and they claimed it would keep them healthy. Modern doctors sure know so much more than women in the 40′s huh?

Just read about that too. It only takes a few minutes of sunshine to keep the D up in your system. Most kids set in front of the TV or computer games now days way to much!

Yeah, you’ve got that right, & Senior Gymmy has it right about Vit. B12. Both are needed by both seniors & by kids, well, by everyone, in fact.

well how about that, first they say the kids should stop drinking milk (plus they start being vegetarians and go on diets so early) and then they’re told there’s a deficiency. No kidding…. Yes you get D with sunshine too. Why not just give them multi-vitamins so that the vitamins that make Vitamin D work are included.

I totally agree. STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER & the VIDEO GAMES. Put down the WII. Go out side and play some baseball, B ball
or roller skate, ride bikes. Go catch tadpoles in the creek. Use your imagaination. Then they will get their sunshine, and Vitamin D. Might also loose some weight in the process.
