Rapid weight loss on Adderall (8 pounds in one week)..?

The title probably speaks for itself.
I'm 20, female, and 5'2". I was prescribed 10mg Adderall IR (to be taken twice daily) about a week ago. Alarmingly, I've dropped from 122 lbs, to 114 lbs since I've started taking it as prescribed.

I have been eating less, due to an utter lack of appetite.. but I've been trying to compensate for it by drinking somewhat caloric beverages, taking my various vitamins (B vitamins, mostly- I'm vegan), and forcing myself to eat before I turn in for the night.

To the Question:
I'm aware that the celerity of this weight loss isn't average.. by any means, but is it at least common during the first week of treatment with amphetamines? Or could it mean that a different medical condition is involved as well?
Thanks for reading. :]

  1. Yes, Adderall has that effect. I know someone with a similar experience. You already know that you’ll have to compensate to keep up your weight. Just watch the scale and don’t let yourself go too low.

"Stimulant medications also decrease appetite in some people, leading to weight loss, and this effect is more common with Adderall than methylphenidate[28] or atomoxetine."

  2. If only I could lose weight that quickly… though you really need to force yourself to eat whether you feel hungry or not… if it makes you sick to eat then go see your doctor… because in that case it’s a very serious matter

  3. Call your Dr. and explain what’s going on,see if the doctor can prescribe you something that doesn”t cause you to lose weight for peak sake’s..don’t waste time CALL!!!

    Hope this helps!!
