Question about vitamin intake and natural antidepressants?
I currently take a B-Complex vitamin with Vitamin C, 200 mcg of Selenium, 100 mg of Omega 3 Fish Oil concentrate, and 200 mg of SAM-e. Do you think this is safe? I would ask a doctor but I don't have health insurance to cover a visit. If anyone knows from experience or is a doctor, your insight would be great and much appreciated.
Also, I have depression and anxiety which is why I am taking all of this.

Why are you taking selenium? I suggest you stop that as it is easy to get in your diet and the toxicity level for it is about 400mcg daily."Symptoms of selenosis include a garlic odor on the breath, gastrointestinal disorders, hair loss, sloughing of nails, fatigue, irritability"
The side effects of SAM-e are "The most common side effects are digestive complaints, particularly nausea. Other side effects include skin rash, lowered blood sugar, dry mouth, blood in the stool, thirst, increased urination, headache, hyperactivity, anxiety and insomnia."
I suggest staying with b-compled +c fish oil and try something like St.John’s wort for depression. Go for a walk 1 hour each day.

The only thing I know for sure is that if you have anxiety issues, you should not be taking SAMe. Switch to 5htp and you can take up to 300mg a day.
I use that and I also take 1000mg a C and 5000iu of vitamin D to go with the 5htp. I take them and I feel great for the first time in my adult life. :)

of course its safe, it’s all natural substances, all those things are great but if SAM-e doesn’t work you might want to substitute it for the herb st john’s wort it is great for depression there’s been medical research to support that as well, germany uses this more than Perception drugs!
here’s a good website to get quality herbs, vitamins and minerals, with the lowest prices, just check for yourself, plus if you use my referral code you get $5 off your first order! if your order is only $5 dollars or less its free!

i recommend getting one of these brands of st john’s wort, Paradise herbs, perika, new chapter or abkit. i really hope you give the natural approach a try, your body will thank you. taking vitamins and minerals like magnesium, manganese and calcium should help as well

I assume that you are taking 1,000mgs of fish oil? and I’m guessing that each one, if you read the fine print on the side, contains 180 to 360mgs of EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid). In which case, you can take a few per day – if the anxiety gets worse, cut it back….in some people (female children of alcoholics, and female addicts) it can have that effect.
You can google "eicosapentaenoic acid depression" in google scholar (google that if you have it, its the research study google) to find the rationale behind that. Bear in mind that you will bruise easier, and that it compunds the effects of drugs that effect clotting – so do not take it with blood thinners.
Also, I don’t see the point of taking a b -complex with C and selenium….don’t get me wrong, I see why you would be interested in it, but the next time you buy a vitamin, get a vitamin with a good amount of B complex (which will contain selenium – and not an excess like that) and enough C….then you can take extra C if you like. Though there is no real recent evidence that taking it is a great thing to do.
