Please give me a brief list of herbal suppliments and vitamins that I should buy, please don't just say to eat?

healthy. That is already known. Please give a brief list of herbal supplements and vitamins to buy.

I'm thinking of getting these;

Multi Vitamin generic,
Cranberry extract,
Ginseng,
Kava Root pills,
Ginko Blioba,
B complex vitamins,
Garlic pills,

Can you think of any others? And can you think of a reason to exclude any of these. Is there any reason to purchase any of these that you can say that is really helpful?

  1. Vitamin D is highly recommended. I started taking it about a year ago and I have not had a single cold — not even the sniffles! My doctor agreed that is is a good supplement to take.

I also think a daily fish oil supplement and Vitamin C are good choices.

  2. There is no real reason to exclude any of those (unless you have an allergy to one of them), but it is doubtful they will do you much good unless you already have a dietary deficiency. One a day multivitamins usually have everything you could need if you are on special dietary restrictions. Many of the beneficial claims made about the other substances you suggest have never been substantiated in a recognized medical journal. Even so, they are unlikely to do any harm, so if you wish to try them feel free.

  3. It really depends what you’re wanting out of your supplements.
Assuming you’re just wanting to enhance an already healthy body and you’re on a good diet, I would suggest:

    1) Multivitamin + minerals (with iron for women, without for men)
    2) An antioxidant such as grape seed extract
    3) An omega fatty acid supplement (fish oil / flax oil / hemp seed oil)

Those are the main ones that will benefit you. If you have a family history of certain diseases you might want to take supplements for those (e.g., calcium if you’re at risk for osteoporosis, etc.). Or a vitamin D supplement if you live in the North and don’t see much sun in the winter.

Supplements are expensive, so I wouldn’t take a whole load of them beyond the basics unless you had a very specific reason to.
