NYC Restaurant Chains Post Calorie Info

PlusNYC Restaurant Chains Post Calorie InfoNYC Restaurant Chains Post Calorie InfoThe Associated PressCustomers at big fast-food chains in New York City are finally facing the facts about their meal choices. And for some, the truth may be hard to swallow. The AP's Ted Shaffrey explains. (July 19)((New York)) Some New Yorkers had a serious case of "calorie shock" on Saturday. "I was like 'Oh my Gosh'The city started enforcing the nation's first-ever law requiring chain restaurants to post calorie counts on all menus - leaving some diners to find out their favorite food had hundreds more calories than they had thought. Violating restaurants face fines of up to 2-thousand dollars - it's not clear how many were cited Saturday. Cathy Nonas of the city's health department has high hopes for the new law. ((Cathy Nonas, NYC Department of Health)) "We hope this has a huge impact on obesity, and of course if it has an impact on obesity it will have an impact on diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. Some of the calorie counts posted Saturday were very high. ((GRAPHIC OVER VID OF FOOD: 2330 Calories)) At TGI Fridays, this appetizer, called a Jack Daniels Sampler has a whopping 2-thousand 330 calories. "We hope the restaurant will be shamed into not offering a 2300 calorie appetizer unless they suggest 10 people share it." ((GRAPHIC OVER VID OF FOOD ON MENU: 1110 Calories)) If you were hoping to just have a salad for dinner at Fridays, you might want to avoid this one, it's got 1110 ...

  1. OH MY G_D!! That is sad.

  2. AWESOME. I love it.

  3. A man they can have that much (a day) if they are physically active.

  4. Depends if they are sedimentary or not, a man can have that much or even a lot more if they take part in a sport or a physical job.. woman could also have that much as long as they are exercising regularly. Depends on their activity really.

  5. Lmao

  6. heh, I think you mean “sedentary”. Sedimentary would mean they’re made of grit and dirt.

At any rate 2330 calories is MORE than your total daily intake. For a woman to work that off with regular exercise, she’d have to do an ENORMOUS amount of working out. Even moderate exercise for approximately 2 hours only burns maybe 500 calories. To burn off that much caloric intake would mean she’d be exercising more than 8 hours a DAY!

Appetizers have NO right being more than your entire day’s intake.

  7. The spell checker did not pick that one up, I hope it did not confuse anyone.

As for your assumption that 2330 calories is more then “my” total daily intake I’ll have you know I am currently at 3400 calories a day and going down to 3160 to maintain 80kg until the end of the year. I am a physically active male and require many calories to maintain and gain weight.

Actually women would not require 8 hours to burn 2330 calories simply because maintaining organs and whatnot requires energy 24/7.

  8. Maintaining your daily weight requires approximately 2000 calories a day for MOST people (not you, obviously :D). But eating a 2330 cal. appetizer assumes that you’re also eating OTHER food that day. Another 1500 cals. elsewhere would be almost half a pound, which is difficult for most people to excercise away in one day! I only burn 400 a day walking on the treadmill for 1 hour. My knees won’t let me jog or be too active.

  9. It certainly depends on the individual. I can agree with you on the 2330 calorie appetiser as it might as well be served in a troth.

  10. Yeah, it really makes me gag to hear about a 2K cal. APPETIZER. If that’s supposed to simply make you hungry, how big is the actual MEAL supposed to be?? XD

  11. this is retarted. Government should not try to regulate what we eat. An individual should be responsible for what they eat. You think Too many caloriesare in there? Dont eat it.

  12. Their not saying what you should or shouldn’t eat, their just making sure you have more information to base your decision on before you go and stuff you face with a day and a half worth of calories from an appetizer.

  13. they’re not regulating what we eat. they’re forcing the food chains to post informations on their food, some of the food tasts good and seems to be healthy can be revealed to be not that great.

  14. how is it possible to have that many calories in one dish?

  15. I need the 2300calorie stuff. Im 6’4” and trying to bulk up.

  16. this is a good thing you need to knw what your eating when your out it makes eating out 10 times better if your on a diet because you knw what your getting into

  17. Use common sense people. If it tastes good, it’s more than likely not very healthy.

  18. 1:48 rofl

  19. Know someone with a weight problem?
This helped me, maby it can help you!

  20. it does not matter if they post calories on the front door…if you’re skinny, lobbyists have paid the chef to cook your food with extra oil. if you are fat, you get special treatment…they make it lean and healthy. so don’t let people cook your food if you don’t want to be fat.

  21. yuck, I cant believe that salad had more than 1k calories. I’m glad I don’t eat out anymore, I don’t like the idea of someone els handling my food, and also not knowing what is exactly going into it. Do yourself and your body a favor and prepare your own meals.

  22. I can’t believe people eat this “food” on a daily basis. I’m glad I don’t have to eat food like that anymore. I cant believe that salad had more than 1,000 calories! Just prepare your own food, it’s cheaper and healthier. People are just lazy, and don’t even care anymore like the ones at 1:48 … all that food makes me loose my appetite.
