Is the Iron in prenatal vitamins too much for a non-prego woman?

I know prenatal vitamins are a good multivitamin whether or not your pregnant, and that men and women alike can take them. What I am curious about is the iron content in them. Is there such a thing as too much iron? I am a 22 yr old female if that matters.

  1. Too much Iron is toxic. And it can cause constipation. Most menstruating women can do with a bit extra iron. Especially if they have "heavy" periods.

As long as your stool is not dark and you are not constipated it should be fine.

  2. You can take too much iron, but in prenatal vit, it’s ok. I take them cause they have lots of B vitamins and are less expensive than multiple vitamins. many women continue them post delivery.
