Is it safe to take vitamins that are 4 years old?

I bought some vitamins 4 years ago called MOVE FREE, which is Glucosamine and Chondroitin, and they were hidden under my kitchen sink all this time. I just now found them, but is it safe to take them, after all this time? Also, the cap has NOT even been snapped?
thank you

  1. From what I’ve read, vitamins that are that old may not be dangerous, but there will be a decrease in potency. Check the expiration date. Usually you can take vitamins a couple of years past the date, but again remember it will probably not be as potent. HTH.

  2. Drugs degrade over time, you’ve no way of knowing whether these have deteriorated into toxic products.

  3. it would be safe but it probably wont do anything for you

  4. One way to find out is open one of the bottles (my mother-in-law takes the same supplement)
If the pills have swelled from condensation or mosture, or their color has dulled or appears stale, then best not to take.

Most vitamins should only be given a shelf life no longer than 1 year. Same with fat-soluble vitamins, gelcaps, veg caps.
Depends too on what type of supplement your referring to besides that one. As long as the storage is moisture free, dry and cool, antioxidants will long much longer, hence the name. ;)
