Is it ok to take multiple vitamins at the same time? how much?
I have been told by someone at my local nutrition center that I need to take about 4 or 5 different vitamins and supplements. Is it ok to take many different vitamins at the same time or are they just trying to sell to me? If I need them, how much should I take?

A multivitamin contains contains many different vitamins and minerals and the recommended amount is one a day. Taking two multivitamins a day is overdoing it and is not recommended.
Different vitamins and minerals are quite compatible and taking several together or even many together is not a problem as they don’t clash.
What can be quite dangerous is if you mix prescription medications as they often clash.

Should not be a problem. Check the consumption label on max intake per day.
Generally for most people, eating a balanced diet using the Dietary Guidelines or Healthy Diet Pyramid as a guide will provide all the essential nutrients in adequate amounts.
Therefore, it is not necessary to take additional vitamin and mineral supplements.
The food we eat contains more than just nutrients and should never be replaced with supplements.

As long as you’re not getting too much of the fat-soluble vitamins, you should be fine. I wouldn’t worry if a nutritionist recommended them.

Well you always want to read the back of the bottle and only take what is allowed (unless you’re sick, then you can take a little more Vitamin C until you get well for example).
I have some vitamins that say you can take up to 6 a day but I usually only take about 3 or 4.
And you want to check with your doctor because some herbs and vitamins dont mix well together.

lol 4 or 5 vitamins at once prolly a scam? If the serving size on the bottle is not 4,5 (which I have never heard of a multi vitamin coming in serving size of 4 caplets) then you shouldn’t be taking that many, just fallow the bottle and aim for a 2 a day, 4 a day.
… However if you have NEVER taken multi-vits before and you weren’t eating to healthy before, then for the first weak or so taking double or triple the amount listed on the bottle is a good idea so your body readapts to having enough vitamins and minerals.

Most of the time yes — unless you take one of those "one a day" pills, because they fully satisfy the amount of vitamins you need in a day. If you take more than that dosage, you are probably overdosing.

Hi Mahesh,
A good multivitamin will be a great start; I take a multivitamin with minerals from health genesis, green foods supplements that contain spirulina and chlorella also from health genesis and a good immune support supplement from new chapter. We do need to add nutritional supplements since the equivalent of what our body needs in real food will be not only a lot of food but also very expensive, a concentrated substitute well balanced can do a better job, but you still need a lot of water and eat your green veggies.
