Is it bad to take a lot of vitamins every day?
How many is too many? ha everywhere you read for any kind of problem, you see, take this or take that...i just read where i should take omega 3 fish oil for beginning arthritis and another vitamin to help with memory loss (or eat an apple a day, ha) and when you go into the store you see TONS of vitamins..plus i am taking biotin right now for hair loss..How do you know which ones you should take every day? and should a person take one maybe 3 months and then switch to a different vitamin? like a heart vitamin for 3 months and then a brain vitamin?? ha i am confused!

To be honest, no one needs vitamin supplements anymore unless they have metabolic conditions. Our food is formulated in such a way that even the pickiest eater gets their daily requirements of all the necessary vitamins.
There can be benefits to supplements, sure, it’s just not necessary. How much is too much depends on how much of each vitamin you get. There are at least three vitamins that are toxic in large amounts; vitamin A is a classic example – don’t eat polar bear liver. Vitamins D and E are the others. But, most good supplements will have significantly less if any of the toxic vitamins than they will the benign ones, so it’s just something to keep in mind. Iron is bad for you in high doses too.
Before you take any supplement, be sure you know what you’re taking and its effect. A lot of those vitamins and herbal supplements have no real proven medicinal value other than as a placebo.

You get most of the vitamins you need if you just eat a balanced diet. If you want to start taking suppliments, consult a doctor first.

I’m not a big fan of these types of supplements, it’s much better for you all round if you can get your vitamins from your diet. Google some nutrition websites that will give you some ideas of what foods you should be eating, my own personal thought is if you have plenty of different coloured food on your plate then you should be getting a good balance.

as far as i know your body needs a limited amount of vitamins every day so it will consume this amount and the rest will be disposed out of body.
and the best way to take vitamins is through a balanced diet better than using pills which some studies showed that consuming them will cause other contraindications.

changing medicines will affect your health system definitely. DOnt take a lot of medicines. Prefer any one of the multivitamin tablet and have healthy diets to improve rtien and iron in your blood and entire body. And do some yoga or excercise to avoid tensions and for good blood circulation. To prevent hair loss do massage with an essential oil and take bath. Also make sure about blood circulation for your scalp. Vitamin B – Comples will help you from hair loss for some extent.

hun, unless you have severe food intolerances or allergies to whole food groups then i would suggest that you try to get your vitamins from eating a wide range of fresh fruit and green green vegies and brightly colored vegies……. eat wholegrains and cereals like brown rice, quinoa, beans and lentils, organic nuts and seeds like almonds, brazil nuts, sunflower seeds, some lean red meats and fresh fishes like salmon, tuna and sardines …….. i’m lactose intolerant and only take a B complex supplement ……….. the B complex of vitamins will bolster healthy digestion, neural and immune system functioning…… for the beginnings of arthritis try cutting out all processed sugar and natural sugars ….. see if that makes the pain go away …….. or eliminate wheat or red meat … trial and error will give you the best results …… but try eliminating one at a time… not all at once so that you know which is contributing to the pain … memory loss, take a B complex supplement containing all the B’s ie ~ B1, B2, b3, b5, B6, B12, folic acid, biotin, choline, inositol, PABA etc.etc…. as they all work best as a group….. to take one individually rather than as a whole group will only serve to throw the balance of the whole complex out and you’ll end with deficiencies in one or the other of the rest of the complex … eat more wholegrains and cereals like brown rice too for improving memory …… rich in B1 (thiamine) which is essential for keeping the nervous system, muscles and heart functioning normally…… drink more fresh filtered water and stay properly hydrated too …. your brain needs water to think, your lungs need it to breathe, your digestive system needs it to digest food, you need it to transport nutrients, lubricate your joints……. drink up and ditch the sodas, pop and soft drinks if you drink any cos they only serve to wash out your B complex of vitamins and dehydrate you ….. healthy hair needs water water water and lots of it and B vitamins …………. excess caffeine and alcohol will also wash out your B vitamins and dehydrate you …… a diet high in processed sugar will wash out your B complex of vitamins ….. try your best to clean up your diet……. go heavy on the green vegies, lightly steamed or raw as cooking devitalises them ……. and eat brightly colored vegies too like red capsicum, carrotts, beets etc….. and watch your hair grow and your eyes shine and your skin glow……. ;0)
***edit***
It does matter how much water soluble vitamins you take such as vitamin C and niacin (vitamin B3) …….. taking in excess of 2,000mg of vitamin C or 35mg of vitamin B3 (niacin) on a regular basis for long periods of time will raise the levels of uric acid in the blood stream thus contributing to gout, arthritic and other inflammatory conditions…….. when uric acid levels are raised in the bloodstream this prompts your body to leach the calcium and magnesium right out of your bones in an effort to neutralise it ……… icky, calcium deficiency isn’t pretty……. headaches and migraines, irritability and moodiness, achy bones, insomnia, digestive issues such as bloating and constipation, nasty temper tantrums and mood swings……….;0)
peace baby

The best thing you could do for yourself is to talk to your doctor about it – your doctor will know exactly how you can make the most of the vitamins and supplements available for you.
Unless you have a specific health need – like heart disease or brain disease – then you don’t necessarily need to take tablets for those (double check that with your doctor – if you have a family history then perhaps taking something like that will help.
Some vitamins are water based (like Vitamin C) and others are fat based (like Vitamin A). With water based vitamins, it doesn’t matter how much you have. However, the fat based vitamins are stored in the fat cells in your body, so you can build up toxic levels of those. So you do need to be careful of how much you take of vitamins. Remember that you do get vitamins and minerals through your food, and make sure you follow the directions on the container – don’t ever take more then the maximum (unless your doctor says otherwise).
