Is 99 blood pressure normal after eating a biscuit?

Before my momma ate a biscuit her blood pressure was 92. An hour after eating the biscuit (from McDonald's) her blood pressure was 99. Is that normal? How high is high? How long is she supposed to wait before testing after eating? Is there anything specific that she should eat and then test?

  1. Do you mean blood sugar?

92 mg/dL and 99 mg/dL before and after eating are normal.

Most people test two hours after their first bite because one hour reveals the blood sugar spike (when blood sugar is typically highest after eating) and two hours reveals how quickly blood sugar is coming back down to normal, pre-meal levels (<100 mg/dL usually). The one-hour reading is still valuable, though, and your mother’s was completely normal and healthy.

  2. I’m with TheOrange Evil on this, my friend. Are you getting confused between blood pressure and blood sugar (glucose)?

As TheOrange Evil states, you would normally test blood sugar levels two hours after eating … unless your momma is pregnant or a newly diagnosed diabetic. In which case they MAY be asked to test one hour after eating.

Eating would not normally affect one’s blood pressure.

  3. You may be concerned about 2 things: blood pressure and blood sugar. A blood sugar level of 99 is low, especially after eating. The blood sugar level 2 hours after eating (called the prandial reading) should not exceed 120. So, her blood sugar level is fine. If you are concerned about blood pressure, then normal blood pressure is 120/80 and should remain more or less the same throughout the day.
