Iron supplement to help with possible anemia?

So I just started taking a liquid iron supplement. They told me at the vitamin store that it's made so the body can absorb the iron and B vitamins faster and put them to use.

My gyno put me on this hormone to make me start my cycle because I hadn't had one in about 10 months. She thinks I have polycystic ovary syndrome. That's a whole other thing but with this cycle I've felt really sick. I felt like I was going to pass out in my class today and I've been nauseous all day. I talked to my chiropractor about it and he said I might be a little anemic so he said to try some iron and B complex. My Gyno on the other hand basically said that I'm just having a hard period and the vitamins will not work. She said it will take 6 weeks for iron to kick in.This has never ever happened to me with any other cycle I've had in my life though. I've never like this. And I know it's not a cold or flue or bug. I know my body and I know the difference. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you!

  1. Blood test will tell you if you are anemic or not. Often you do feel sick if your iron is low. Keep up fluids too, as that cycle tends to increase sebaceous gland activity.

  2. Why is your chiropractor diagnosing you for anemia?? Personally, that is irresponsible professional behavior on his part because he has no training whatsoever in this field…. Meaning, only a blood panel can diagnose you for anemia…

In short, never take iron supplements unless the blood work justifies it because it can mask other issues, and make it very difficult for a professional to figure out what is the problem. Please go to your GP doctor, and have a basic blood work up done as soon as possible instead of taking advice from people… Once you have blood panel results in hand, it will be obvious if any blood abnormalities exist, and what do to about them…

Also PCOS is rather serious, but luckily is easy to treat if found early… I am a little troubled by a professional doctor saying they "think" you have it… Meaning, it is a quite easy diagnosis to verify…. Personally, I think you might want to consider a second opinion on this… There are allot of great doctors out there, but unfortunately there are a couple bad ones as well…

Good Luck and I Hope this Helps…
