I am Seeking Professional Help…
As many of you know, I deal with depression/anxiety/panic attacks as well as agoraphobia and have dealt with the anxiety/panic attacks and the agoraphobia for almost two years now. My mom and brother have free health insurance from the American Indian Health Project and they brought me some paperwork one day to fill out so I could get some help. (I am also eligible for the free health insurance since I am Cherokee Indian, but was never able to take advantage of it due to the agoraphobia). The nurse at the American Indian Health Project even said she would come out and see me personally due to the anxiety/panic attacks and agoraphobia. Being hard-headed and not wanting any help, I put away the paperwork never giving a second thought to the possibility of getting help. Now that I've thought about it, and now that I've suffered for nearly two years with the anxiety/panic attacks and agoraphobia, I've decided to seek professional help. I would appreciate all of your prayers, and to God be the glory! Amen.

Sorry for my passion in your comments Jordan.
It’s still resides in me from my many months of learning about scientology and fighting their anti-psychology propaganda online. It strikes a chord in me when people can have the nerve to ignorantly dissuade others when their opinions are simply unfounded.

There’s the story of the man and the flood. A man dies in a flood and asks god why he wasn’t rescued. Then god lists all of the ppl that tried to help and the man refused them all.
If help is available, don’t be ashamed to accept it. Sometimes problems are too big for a person to handle them alone.
I wish you all the best! :-)

FWIW, I encourage you to take advantage of this help since it’s available. I’ve been there and it helped me. Take care.

Praying for you.
A family member of mine used to have panic attacks, and I have dealt with stressful situations, myself, so I can see how this can be a problem.
Keep resting in Christ, and prayerfully consider any help you can get.

I am part Dakota which is the fancy name for Sioux!! :) Very little….1/32nd :o My first Sovereign Grace pastor was about a quarter Chocktaw and his preaching was the first I ever heard. So many of us have some kind of Indian in us somewhere. And of course many would not even know it.

Yay! I’m so glad you are going to get help. I am too! =) I hope I don’t have to take meds. But this psychiatrist is supposed to be good, so I’m going to trust him. Keep us posted on how it goes. I think I’m gonna start blogging too. good luck Jordan! =D

Best wishes on your treatment. Medication and “talk therapy” can help with this issues. Keep searching until you find the right combination.

We all got hurdles to jump on the road of life.

WOJ, I’ll give my advice. See the shrink. But see him with a healthy dose of skepticism. He won’t present objective tests for his dianosis but will just say, “Well, I’m the Ph.D here.” I know he’ll do this because there aren’t any objective tests. And the “I’m the Ph.D” is called an Appeal to Authority and is immediately suspicious to a scientist. So see the shrink, but be *careful*. Psych.s DON’T make money from correct diagnoses. If everybody has a mental illness, the psych. is better off.

And keep us informed. If you have no friends where you live, you have many friends in Christ. Keep us up to date. We care about you and wish only for your well being.
To God be the glory now and forever,
Amen

Hey there, I will definately pray for you, but I have a suggestion. I too have suffered from anxiety attacks. I rarely get them anymore, but one of the things I do is tell the depression out loud, “Depression, in Jesus name go away”. Depression is caused from demons and when you speak the name of Jesus they must flee! I feel the effects almost immediately.

Instantly I feel a peace coming over me and my anxiety is gone. You may have to do this several time before it leaves for good. Give it a try and let me know how it works. Jesus is the ultimate healer!

Best wishes. Be wary of anyone who wishes to medicate you. Explore your own mind and seek harmony. Anyone who has verbal guidance for you can help you search, but ultimately its your responsibility. If you hand over that responsibility to a drug or to a doctor who is giving you drugs, you will weaken, become dependent and distance yourself more and more from the place, mentally, where you are able to search and heal yourself. You will make the problem\s more complex.
Peace is healing.

That is good that you can get help from the American Indian Health Project. Just curious, what percentage of Indian blood qualifies a person for this?
June 17th, 2010 - 06:20
@ichbindarren No specific amount if I remember correctly. All you have to do is be registered as an American Indian.
June 17th, 2010 - 07:53
@TheWoodsofJordan Thats cool man, I don’t have any Indian blood, but maybe I can inform others about this program.
