How to nourish dehydrated, frizzy, fried hair?
I've dyed my hair a bit too much, and though it's been 3 months since I last dyed it, I still shed like a cat.
And when I DON'T use a straightener, it's a wavy, curly, frizzy, coarse feeling, MESS.
When I do it's super soft...but I'd rather not keep losing my hair please.
I also try not to straighten my hair much. (not more than 1 or 2x a week.)
And I wash It every 2-3 days.
I use two conditioners, one of which is supposedly a 'deep' conditioner..It's by Garnier Fructis....
Would taking vitamins help?
Or do I need to go get a professional Protein and deep conditioning treatment performed at a salon?
Homemade remedies, or store bought remedies would be useful.
I have thick hair, original light brown, dyed black. Cut about 5-6 inches below my shoulder, and in too many layers to count, starting at the top of my ears.
My hair went from light brown, to dark brown, to black, back to dark brown, to red/blonde, back to black, and then the roots re-dyed black again. All since late October, 2008.
I also went most of late june, early july without straightening it but once.
(it was for about 3 weeks, but no matter what I do, almost enough hair to clog the drain comes out every time i take a shower and run my fingers through my hair. :/ )
OH, I'm also looking to get my hair to grow out..
It was down to my waist early 2008, and i cut it off to my shoulders in march, 2008. :( I miss my long hair.

Caitlyn,
You’ve really given your hair an extreme work out, it needs to go on vacation for just a little while. As you said you are amenable to home made remedies, one of the very best is to apply olive oil to clean hair. You don’t need to wash it as it sounds like it’s clean enough. Wrap your head in a warm towel, out of the dryer or out of the sun, and leave it on for oh, 20 to 30 minutes. Then shampoo very gently with a straight shampoo. You may need to do this every day until your hair starts looking better and get the ends trimmed pretty regularly. You can do the same treatment with mayonnaise, but you don’t want to be a sandwich or salad head.
Good luck, I hope it looks better soon.

Wow you sure have dyed your hair a lot! Oh well, doesn’t matter. Maybe talk to your doctor about any vitamins that you can take, but the most important thing is that you DON’T straighten your hair at all! Use lots of creams that say that they are nourishing, and talk to your hair dresser about anything that will help your hair. Wash with cold water or warm water to help. Good luck!

The others are correct in their answers but here is a little more in depth:
To do a home made hot oil treatment use equal amounts of honey and olive oil heated in a sink of hot water. The olive oil conditions and the honey adds the nutrients that your hair is missing.
Hair masks help a lot. I use Aussies 3 minute treatment and leave it there for 20-30 minutes.
For the frizz, if you get rosemary from the store (dried herbs and spices section) you can make a tea with it. To do this, boil water (or use a coffee pot) and put about 2 tablespoons of the rosemary into the water and let sit for 20 minutes. Let cool so that it doesn’t burn your scalp and after you wash and condition your hair pour it over your hair.
It’ll take about 2 weeks of constant use to really do a number on the frizz but you’ll see results in just a couple of days.
Good luck!
