How to get off my diabetic and blood pressure meds?
I have been a type 2 diabetic and have had high blood pressure for 6 years now. I am sick and tired of taking (and paying for) these meds. I hear and read about people treating their diabetes with just diet and exercise. Where is the best information on how to do it?
I am 6'5" and 245lbs. I have a lot of aches and pains, some may be due to the extra weight, some of the pain from trying to work out.

I think many of your pains are caused by diabetes. You may not get off meds. , but you may be able to reduce them. Also if you are on any statins for Cholesterol, report to your doctor to get off them now. Statins can cause muscle deteriation, including heart muscles. They are very dangerous.
Here are the 4 key steps in controlling diabetes.
Here are the 4 keys:
1) Knowledge- http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/index.ph… This is a great site for info
2) Meds. Metformin to start. Never , ever take Actos or Avandia. They may kill you. Bone fractures, heart problems and what diabetics really don’t need is that they change Bone Stem Cells to Fat Cells.
3)diet- A low carb diet is in order. I can’t count carbs so I use Mendosa’s Glycemic Index Diet. Great for the whole family. http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm
4) EXERCISE- Walking is fine but Nordic Walking is Great. Exercise also lowers Glucose levels , lowers Cholesterol and lowers Blood Pressure. Google it.
With Nordic walking my blood pressure is now 118/68. Cholesterol is 183.And fbs is 95 with a hba1c. I still take bp medicine and 2000 MG of metformin and 3 mg of amaryl. Will try to lower Amaryl soon.
Good luck

Improving diet and exercise is pretty much the only way, and even then, they work only for mild cases. Try it for a while, and if it fails to improve your BP and blood glucose, you’re looking at requiring those meds for the rest of your life. Those aren’t diseases that can be cured, only treated with chronic use of meds.

I can only suggest what I did.
The first thing you have to do, and thankfully you have started, is to not accept the prognosis. The medical paradigm is that you can only control your condition, you can’t reverse it. Hogwash.
You have to learn what caused the condition and stop doing it. The incidence of obesity and diabetes has tripled in the past thirty years or so. Have our genes changed in thirty years to explain that increase? Or has our environment (diet) changed enough to explain it?
A couple of videos you need to watch are linked below. The first one explains the cause of obesity and diabetes and how dietary changes in the 1970s are responsible.
The second video relates some of the findings on the relationship of high blood pressure and fructose. This is an absolute must view. You need to find out the cause of high blood pressure before your kidneys are damaged beyond repair.
Now, the pain. Almost all Americans are vitamin D deficient. I got rid of the pain through normalizing my vitamin D levels. In fact, there is a link between vitamin D deficiency and the onset of diabetes.
Use your search engine and investigate for yourself. Certain minerals are essential. Certain oils are poison. Most of the vegetable oils are from genetically modified organisms.

Most people are not able to ‘get off’ their medications. The only sensible approach is as follows. A low glycemic index diet with little to no refined carbohydrates, weight loss (your Body Mass Index is 29.1 kg/M2 and a goal would be a BMI of 25 kg/M2), low salt diet, low fat diet, low cholesterol diet, plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables (beware of the pernicious marketing that processed food and drinks contain the equivalent of a serving of fruit and / vegetables as all of the data showing benefit was based upon fresh fruits and vegetables rather than processed food), and regular exercise. Good luck. I wish you the very best of health and in all things may God bless.
