How much vitamin should i used per day?

Hi. I am an RP (retinitis pigmentosa) patient. It was said that Vitamin A Palmitate 15000IU could slow down the process of vision loss. In my country in all the pharmacies i checked, they have only 50000IU (which i guess was imported from India). Can anyone with some knowledge of this tel me whether 50000IU is an appropriate dosage of vitamin A. Or is it some difference in how it is measured?

  1. IU should be the same. When you buy specific vitamins, some people think the more the better. The fact is, your body can only use what it needs and excrets the rest in urine or whatever. So if oyur body uses 15000 a day and you take a 50000 iu pill, there is really no problem, you’ll just pee it out. So, if you can find a lower dose cheaper, it would be worth it.

  2. The Reader’s Digest magazine (November 2007) has a summary of vitamins. It’s here:

    Hope it can help.
