How much Vitamin D should I take daily..?

I take a Centrum multi vitamin daily and wanted to add Vitamin D ..
Many people don't get enough of this vitamin in the winter and seeing as how I really don't even sunbathe in the summer, there is no way I built up enough when it was warmer out (I have ghostly pale skin).

What is the average amount someone is supposed to take a day? I want to go to the store to get the vitamins but there are always different doses, etc.. and I want to know what kind to buy.
All SPAM answers will obviously be reported so good luck with that.

Hopefully someone can help or else I will just delete this question obviously.

  1. Most people should take vitamin D especially in the fall and winter in the US or Canada and probably year round if you hardly get any sun. You can get vitamin D naturally from the sun, but it is not strong enough to penetrate your skin in the fall and winter and that’s why you need to take a supplement. Experts have been debating for years about the right amounts for people to take and I’m still not 100% sure myself. I used to hear that 200-400 IU was good, then 800 IU. Now experts are saying that these amounts are still too low. I’ve been taking 800 IU myself, but I’m planning to start taking 1000 IU. I’m a 37 female who lives in Canada and I don’t get much sun during the winter. I think you should take anywhere from 800 – 2000 IU/day. But I’m not a doctor. I’m pretty sure that 1000 IU should be safe and heathy though.

  2. as much as you can take befor you overdoze

  3. i beleive u can take 2000 IUs of vitamin D daily..
    that should be plenty
just buy any regular Vitamin D and it is in IUS

    not mg

  4. You don’t need to take vitamin D unless you are a strict vegan who never goes out in the sun. Especially if you are already taking a daily multivitamin.

There is plenty in fish, eggs, and beef.
