How much vitamin D is considered overdose?

I eat yogurt almost daily, and I also take cod liver oil. Recently, my family switched to larger CLO capsules, which provides 50% (200 IU) daily value of vitamin D. The yogurt also provides 50% vitamin D. At my house, we only drink whole milk, but I don't drink it very often. Also, where I live, it is currently spring. Is this too much vitamin D?

  1. Vitamins A, D, E, and K are all fat-soluble vitamins. You’re right – if you take too much vitamin D, you can overdose. However, the Institute of Medicine sets the tolerable upper limit for vitamin D at 2000 IU, 10 times the RDA, for a healthy adult, and many people argue that the upper limit may be as high as 10000 IU. So, 2 or 3 or even 5 times the RDA isn’t really a concern. Just be sure to splash some sunlight on your skin so that you can convert the cholecalciferol to it active form, and stay away from bear liver.

  2. Vitamin D is a vitamin that if taken in large amounts you just urinate it out…

  3. I think the amount of suggested dosage of vitamin d depends on age. In recent reading I’ve heard that children need much less than adults. Many doctors, including my own, are suggesting 2,000 units of vitamin d daily. I’m actually currently taking 5,000 IU’s a day with this Metagenics vitamin D3 capsule, http://www.ovitaminpro.com/d35000.html I would first talk to your doctor before heading to the drug store or online supplement store to determine the proper amount your body should be attaining. Hope this helps!
