How long does Vitamin D (D3) take to convert to it's activated form once it enters the bloodstream?

Despite being called a ‘vitamin’, Vitamin D is actually a pro-hormone. Production can begin within minutes of sun exposure. ( longer for darker skinned people) Conversion or ‘activation’ takes longer. The liver converts Vitamin D into calcidiol and the kidneys convert it into calcitriol. This wouldn’t show up in your blood for about 24 hrs.

CAUTION: You need Calcium to absorb Vitamin D. If there isn’t sufficient Calcium in your blood/diet your body will pull it from your bones. Not good!!

It depends on where you are getting your D source from….are bodies have a VERY difficult time absorbing Vit D.
