how long can vitamins be outdated in order for them to be safe or good ?

I would like to know if it is okay to take vitamins if they are outdated from 6 months to a year. Are the value of them less and are they safe or is it useless to take them if they are outdated like some medications?

  1. I would say no! Usually they project the nutritional value several years in advance of when they actually market them, so if they are past that date, I would think that they would no longer have any nutritional value in them and be ineffective…pretty much like any meds that are outdated too.

Although, I’m not sure if vitamins can become toxic or not if they are outdated…just pretty much useless I would think.

  2. don’t take them past the expiration date on package – they turn poisonous

  3. Depends on the vitamin- just a multivitamin without all the additives- ie iron, fruit extracts, trace metals, etc. will be good at least 6 month past the expiration date.
