how does the sunlight induce production of vitamin D?

how is vitamin D produced by sunlight? We know for chlorophyl in plants but vitamin D? how is it produced?

Vitamin D is found in the body in an inactive form ,, by Exposure it to the sun it is activated by chemical reactions.
