High Blood Pressure Anybody else have problems in their family with this?
My father, along with both my grandfathers have had high blood pressure. Not to mention countless other relatives along with a variety of other issues like: diabetes, heart attacks, strokes, etc. etc. Everytime I get checked, Im in the "prehypertension" stage. Any ideas on how to get out of this? Or, by my genes I feel like Im just doomed to have high blood pressure.

Adopt DASH diet (The Mediterranean diet). Eat a low-cholesterol, low-fat diet, which includes cottage cheese, fat-free milk, fish, vegetables, poultry, and egg whites. Use monounsaturated oils such as olive, peanut, and canola oils or polyunsaturated oils such as corn, safflower, soy, sunflower, cottonseed, and soybean oils. Avoid foods with excess fat in them such as meat (especially liver and fatty meat), egg yolks, whole milk, cream, butter, shortening, pastries, cakes, cookies, gravy, peanut butter, chocolate, olives, potato chips, coconut, cheese (other than cottage cheese), coconut oil, palm oil, and fried foods.
Also take omega-3 fatty acid.

Well high blood pressure runs in my family but my average blood pressure reading is about 100/55 with a pulse rate of 40 bpm. So it is perfectly possible to escape, I am Vegan and live a healthy lifestyle.
Firstly get your cholesterol level checked, do you consume a lot of animal products?
Your body needs a certain amount of cholesterol which it creates itself out of saturated fat so it is easy to keep a perfect balance without ever having any cholesterol spikes in your blood (this is when there is too much fat running through your arteries), when this occurs fatty deposits attach to the walls of your arteries and harden so your arteries become less flexible and result in increased blood pressure. So when you add animal cholesterol in on top of your bodies natural cholesterol you are going to get cholesterol spikes, and if you eat animal products 3/4 times a day or more your body is not going to get a chance to clean away some of the gunk in your arteries.
So that is the first and most important course of action if you do consume animal products, cut down, plus nuts and seed are really good.
Also I am sure you know it is vital to not consume to much sodium so keep an eye on that, and try to eat less than the recommended daily allowance as you are already in the stage of prehypertension. Drink 2-3 liters of water a day, and never forget to exercise. Walk, always use the stairs just simple things like that, they all add up.
