Glock 30: Pocket Freight Train
The Glock is a chunk of a pistol but it packs a wallop...namely 11 rounds of .45 ACP. That's a lot of defensive lead in such a small package. Many still choose the .45 ACP chambering for their defensive pistol and it does perform well, especially with quality +P loads. But expect more weight, bulk, cost, and recoil with the .45 ACP. If you're ready for all of THAT then considering the sub-compact, double-stack Glock 30 as a carry option makes a lot of sense. It inherits all of the good Glock attributes that I've spoken to before in other vids: great reliability, accuracy, durability, good ergos, controls placement, good firepower options (takes 13 rd Glock 21 mags too), good sights, good value, proven track record, LOTS of accessories, simple fieldstrip and maintenance. Downsides on the Glock 30 are few but will include its 1.27" thick slide (makes ankle and maybe belly band carry tough) and the inherent , more rakish Glock grip angle. But that's about it. When compared against many 1911 offerings, the G30 will win in firepower and weight comparisons but will lose the thickness battle, the all-important carry dimension. Choosing a good carry option will help mitigate this Glock's thickness. These might include a quality inside-the-waistband holster, shoulder holster, and/or some fannypack options. Also at just 25.5 oz this powerhouse won't weigh you down especially for the stopping power offered. It is a powerful defensive option. /////////////Nutnfancy Likeability Scale ...

@cojo009 Correct. The G36 is the slim frame .45 ACP.

Excellent videos, all of them.

I watched this review almost a year ago which lead me to purchase and currently carry the glock 30, I watch all your videos they are very informative. I just wanted to thank you for the great product reviews and I hope you continue with these as much as possible, before I purchase a product I always do my review checks and so far it has not failed me. I also wanted to add to this review by saying if you do purchase the glock 30 for concealment look into getting the slim fit model also SF

Great video as always. Thanks man.

Do a review of the G36 Nutn! That would be awesome. I’ve got one and they are really impressive.
June 25th, 2010 - 23:26
One thing you should annotate about the SF design is that it’s actually Short Frame not Slim Frame. The thickness is exactly the same, it’s the front to back width that is less. Less from the palm swell to the finger grip. The only REAL Slim Frame Glock is the G36 and it indeed is thinner and attributed to the single stacked mag.

@silvermediastudio did you not listen to him? he was addressing someone that only has money for one handgun and wants to compromise.
June 27th, 2010 - 19:41
that is a nice looking Glock
June 27th, 2010 - 20:13
I would love to see this pistol run the sledge hammer.
June 27th, 2010 - 23:43
@RazdrazChelloveck No, I can’t listen to an entire video’s worth of rambling from Nutn. 20 minutes to say 4 minutes worth of information. Considering I can carry a full-size Glock 20 10mm 15+1 concealed all day in the summer and I’m under 180lbs, can’t say I’m buyin’ it. Also, when it comes to carry, “one is none, two is one.” For home defense, might as well have something that you are able to practice with frequently, and can point shoot. Compacts aren’t too good for that.

AND I CANT GET IT BACK TOGETHER!!!
LOL love your vids, bro.

I shot this gun at oak tree gun club.
July 4th, 2010 - 22:16
@silvermediastudio Why? Because it works. What do you have against compacts? Some people can only afford one gun and will probably want something they can sit on their nightstand and then strap to their belts in the morning. I guess you can afford to buy one for carry, one for home defense, one for plinking and then an extra for each thing just for fun .. but most people aren’t going to do that. The G30 is a fine home defense gun and is also a fine carry gun. Its accurate and powerful. Fine gun.

G30 is a great gun. Love mine. Definitely closer to the size of the G19/23 than the 26/27 though. Their subcompact name is pretty misleading IMO.
“SF” is “Short Frame”. Shorter front to back not thickness. The difference for me with average sized hands between the 30 and 30SF is pretty minimal, but is quite pernounced on the 21 vs the 21SF. I would still agree they should go with the 30SF though. Great vid Nutn, enjoying watching some of your older vids I haven’t seen yet.
July 6th, 2010 - 21:41
@JackSureshot I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
July 6th, 2010 - 21:46
@jsh1284 I have nothing against compacts but analyze what you said. 1) On nightstand, size is not an issue. With a compact on the nightstand, you have sacrificed capacity and gained nothing to aid in defense. 2) On belt, well if you’re carrying OWB there’s no need for a compact. If you’re carrying IWB then while it might help concealment, it’s still as thick as a full-size, and as I said, most people can carry a full-size concealed even in summer clothing. There are better 1-gun options.
July 6th, 2010 - 21:49
@jsh1284 And regarding affordability and “bang for buck,” get a gun that you can drop a .22, 9mm, or .40 barrel into for less expensive practice. Rock Island .45 ACP can be had for $400 and will accept a drop in practice barrel for about $100 more. With a handful of mags it still costs less than the compact Glock.
July 6th, 2010 - 22:21
@silvermediastudio You can do that with a Glock as well. They have .22 conversions. Plus if you get a 40 cal Glock you can get a .357 sig barrell and it will work immediately with the same mags. Same goes with the .357 sig, you can just put a 40 cal barrel in it and boom three guns in one. The SIG P250 has the ability to convert over to a 9mm, .40 and .45 with some minor changes like barrel and mags.
If you need to save you could go with another option. If you want top quality tho, get a Glock
July 6th, 2010 - 22:24
@jsh1284 You’re all over the map, dude. I have nothing against Glocks, nor compacts. I own and carry Glocks daily. A drop in .357 Sig isn’t saving you any money. Yes Sig has similar, I carried a Sig for 3 years.
The POINT is that a Glock 30 is a compromise for SD/HD, and not the best option if you can only afford 1 firearm to cover a variety of uses.
July 6th, 2010 - 22:26
@jsh1284 And by the way, you can’t just drop in a .22 barrel and use a different Mag, it’s a more involved conversion, because the stock spring and slide are too heavy for .22 to reliably cycle.
July 7th, 2010 - 00:16
@silvermediastudio Haha .. yeah I know. It comes with a different slide. You basically pay about $250 for a new slide with different working parts. it comes with a mag or two but it involves nothing but taking your stock slide off and putting the new slide on. It’s not involved at all. Actually it’s easier than just changing the barrel and mag.
July 10th, 2010 - 17:42
.45ACP doesn’t have to be that think. The slimline G36 is thinner then the G26.
July 11th, 2010 - 18:22
Compact Glocks are good for carry conceal carry wearing typical sreet clothes.
The G compacts are pretty much as accurate at their bigeer brothers.
Yea, if I was going to conceal while wearing exercise clothing for walking or running, I’d go with a an even more comact pistol. The Kel tec or Ruger .380s would be good for this.
July 13th, 2010 - 05:32
Are you sure that holds 11 rounds?! Glock website said it held either 6 or 8….
July 14th, 2010 - 02:10
wow a 20 minit vid lol
