For how long does the body store vitamin c?
This has been asked a few times already but It's never been explained why you can survive being on a diet low on vitamin c when you need it daily. I read an article about Inuits that lived primarily off fish but did eat some fruits and vegetables from time to time meaning that there could be days or even weeks between each dose of vitamin c. Does this mean that the body does in fact contain vitamin c inside the cells for a longer period of time but the plasma level drops however much quicker?

Hi:)
The body cannot store vitamins, so you need to refill this through food. However, you can go for some time before you get ill from vitamin deficiency. So you can cope without certain vitamins for quite some time before it gets critical:) Vitamin C for example is used to pick up iron, and you need iron to pick up oxygen. But iron is a mineral, which the body does store. Butif you run low on this, you’ll feel fatigue. So if the Inuits only ate fruit and veggies weeks apart, then they would be fine. However, a healthy balanced diet where you aren’t robbed of any nutrients, can make you live longer:)
