This is true. This is the 1st time I’ve done weight training at this level (I’m a female) and it is a totally different type of weight loss. That’s why I’m focused on inches instead of pounds. I love it.

Weight-lifting > Cardio. Weight-lifting is superior to cardio. People should only do very little cardio. I do only 10 to 20 minutes of HIIT 3 times a week, because that’s all I need. Weight-lifting does the rest.

Thanks Sean for this clip! Awesome, awesome info! Awesome food for thought.

I do 8-10 100m ( not at once) sprints and lift weights, i know lots of people that have gotten very weak yet stayed lean because they burn “500″ calories on a elliptical everyday. Its pretty sad.. dont worry about how many calories your burning its just a number, excercise and know that you are pushing yourself over 80%

what kind of books do you recommend on this topic?
March 17th, 2011 - 22:41
everything sean said has worked for me :)

I exercise for martial arts performance. Not the wushu-type that you see on competitions, though XD. Just, being ready for self-defense.

makes me upset for being a long distance runners :( and for your information i run an hour and 40 for a half marathon time and i was obese when i was younger. I lost a lot of weight doing that. my biggest problem though is i still have loose skine after 2 and a half years of being skinny. really pissing me off.

remember people if your going to follow this and start lifting dont forget your LEGS thats HALF the muscle in your body!! it sucks so bad and its so taxing but it burns a s**t ton of calories as apposed to bicep curls or tricep extension.

These radio broadcasts are killing my speakers and it is very unbearable to listen to

So what are these exercise routines? I’ve just saw this, i’m 146 and 5’7″ and somewhat slim with a size 30 waist, but how do you get fit? I’m not fat, but i’m just not fit or lean.
March 18th, 2011 - 02:27
So informative! I workout often; I try to educate myself and change my routine up to give my body a constant challenge. You touched on some major points for me. I’m trying to lean down by doing short distance sprints, catching my breath, sprinting again and so on. Thanks Sean, love your videos.

Also… I do weight train esp legs b/c by genetics I have muscular legs. Running keeps my stress down and my anxiety under control :)
March 18th, 2011 - 02:55
That explains a lot. Now I understand why I wasn’t getting the results I wanted by jogging alone only when I switched to aerobic intervale training did I start to see
fat loss.
March 18th, 2011 - 02:56
So I guess what these two are saying is that the obese lady who’s doing long, periodic cardio (catabolic) on the treadmill for two hours is likely to gain more weight, than if she did interval/weight training (anabolic) intensely for half an hour?
March 18th, 2011 - 05:27
well, i think this is a matter of will. my girlfriend was 50lbs overweight and lost it in 4 months! that was a combination of lot’s of cardio (catabolic) and a very disciplined diet. It makes perfect sense that your body will ask for more food after your hour or two of intense cardio, but if some one want to loose the fat ( that wasn’t supposed to be there in the first place) should step out of the confort zone, and not listen to the urges of the body! will power, that’s key!

@tylergenis You lost the weight too fast is why, your skin didn’t have time to adjust and shrink properly.

I am a woman 5”3, 100 pounds and I find out that when I do weight training I tend to gain big unaesthetic muscles compared to when I do long distance.
