Employer Refrence , what can your former employer say about you?


Ok my former employer and I left on bad terms....he kinda of fired me....it was a vitamin store....but now I this company wants to check my employer history an wants the past 5 years...Shud I just omit this job.(it was on the resume)....Is it legal for my former employer to talk bad about me

  1. They are not allowed to say anything that didnt happen but at the same time its their word against yours. Good luck.

  2. they can look up anyjob you ever worked with you ssn….and the most they can say is weather or not they would hire you again……and if they say no, they cannot dog about you…I had that with my last employer and they are now giving me almost 10,000 cause of the loss of employment cause they did that to 3 places that i could have worked for…that is called discrimination….

  3. In most states, all they can say is the dates of employment and the reason you left the job.

    They cannot say anything about you that they know to be untrue.

  4. Your employer can say whatever he wants. However, if he says anything that is untrue and it costs you the new job then you can sue him. Because of this most employers have policies that they only give out very limited information: dates of employment, title. However, there’s no guarantee of what your former employer might say. You might be better off to discuss why you left with your new employer and do it first. Also, don’t omit a job if it’s listed on your resume as that will raise a red flag.
