Vegetable oil. Coating yourself with vegetable oil may make you feel like a French fry, but your skin will love you. In fact, experts say that any oil, from vegetable to sunflower to peanut, offers relief from dry skin.
* Massage the face with almond oil or olive oil every night before going to bed. The oils can be used to massage the other parts of the body.
* The best cleaning method for dry skin is soaking the face in lukewarm water for 10-15 minutes. It is better to avoid warm water to clean the face especially in winters.
* Mash a ripe banana and apply it on the face and neck. Leave it for sometime and then wash the face with lukewarm water.
* Massaging the skin with grapeseed oil is the best and very effective method for dry skin.
* In severe cases of dry skin castor oil or avocado oil is very beneficial.
* After bathing applying Aloe Vera gel is effective.
* Fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamin A and B should be taken.
* For washing the face it’s better to use mineral water instead of the tap water.
* Make a mixture of cooked oatmeal along with honey for moisturizing and cleaning the face.

don’t shower in hot water, go as cool as you can.
moisturize every possible time you can.
other than that, there’s not much you can do.
November 20th, 2010 - 12:51
Just use lotion. Or conditioner in the shower rub it over your skin.
November 20th, 2010 - 12:51
wash it gently and pat dry, keep using the mositurizer you have. Its takes a while, but it will work.
And try to eat healthy. Bad foo habits = Bad skin.

I know this is going to sound totally nuts but you can look it up for yourself on the internet if you dont believe me, Crisco or its equivalent will work wonders on dry skin!
November 20th, 2010 - 12:51
Try eucerin, really helps sooth your skin and gets dryness out!
November 20th, 2010 - 12:51
Sorbolene cream with vit E. Its inexpensive and it works.
November 20th, 2010 - 12:51
most dry skin happens because people are using hard water. get a water softener, if thats to much for you/your family to get, just try washing your face with purified water.

Eat really greasy foods, then ur problem will be ur skin is too oily. I’m guessing its dry because of some acne stuff ur using if thats the case dont use it as much reduce it to every other day. If thats not it I would tell you to go to the store and purchase some cocoa butter lotion, that stuff works like a charm!
November 20th, 2010 - 12:51
i have the dryest skin in the world. i use vaseline cocoa butter lotion every mornign but since you can’t go buy somehting try any unscented lotion you have, drink plenty of water, don’t take showers that are too hot, and dont put things on your face with fragrance in it

If Not Use Vasaline..
Or A Good Smooth Moistuiser..!

Sounds like it might not be "dry" skin, especially if raw oil isn’t helping. Flaky skin can be other things like psoriasis. Look around online for more info on skin issues, and start there.

I think the most that ever helped dry skin in my family has always been COCO BUTTER LOTION but to cure it use everyday

i had dry skin too… i went the docs and it turned out to be psoriasis. not to say u have the same condition, as it could simply just be dry skin.
try using soap for kids on ur face as this is often a lot more gentle on ur skin. i have to use diprobase (basically similar to sudocrem)
i wouldnt really trust these expensive options as u are paying more for a nice smell… and with nice smells this tends to mean more chemicals which will have an effect on ur skin too

i used two slices of cucumber and rubed it on my face.it smoothed and cleansed my face
you should try that=)
or save money and buy st.ives oatmeal and shear butter bodywash.yes i kno "bodywash" but it has a great soothing fragrance and your skin will feel amazing=)

Drink wayyyyyyyyy more water. Your body is dehydrated. Topical remedies will not help when the problem is inside. You will need patience-a couple of months with more water and you will see results.

ok first, choose your beuthiful skin or lil bit of money? but i can help u ;) first if you have just home remedies you need to use them and some other stuff from outside :) get some clay, get some vegetables like cucumber, bananas and carots you need to make mask ;) if olive oil didnt helped you you faced real problem, but try mask ;) and not wash your face often becouse it losts water when you washing it ;)
November 20th, 2010 - 12:51
I used to have this problem :)
-you could take some petroleum jelly, and take about 1/4 a cup, and put it on your face. Then, take a warm shower with it on. Wash it off after about 10-15 minutes.
-NEVER use hot water to wash your face. It dries it out. Instead, use warm water.
-Try washing your face less. Use a sensitive skin cleanser.
-wear moisturizer (especially when going out into the cold).
-put a TINY bit of baby oil on your face before going to bed at night.
-wash your face with honey, like, out of a jar. It has calming properties in it.
Hope something here works for you. Good luck :)

try washing your face with face wash that is specifically for dry or sensitive skin. (Nothing with exfoliators in it)
Then apply your face lotion (extra moisturizing) when your face is still damp.

I think this site is helpful. You have tried some, but not all of the remedies. I have found that drinking water helps the most. I hate doing it, but it seems to help a lot. Good luck to you!

I have had eczema for a long time on my hands. My doctors tell me that anything that dries your skin out is the cause. Examples: Hot water, soaps, cleaners, Hot/Cold weather, ect… So whatever you do you have to keep your face moisturized. I don’t have dry skin on my face but I have learned that soap on my face is bad news. So when showering I do not use soap.. I scrub with a wash rag really good. I do use any type of lotion on my face that I use on my hands daily. Helps to keep a youthful look for longer no matter if you have dry or oily skin. Some doctors and others that have dry skin say it can be due to stuff you eat. Try eliminating things with acid in them for awhile. Then try taking out something else if that doesn’t work.
You may try using conditioner you use on your hair to moisturize your face since you can’t get lotions. But the dollar stores carry plenty of name brands cheaper. Or even walmart has sample lotions for just a dollar.
An older lady friend of mine uses conditioner on her legs to shave with. She says it leaves her skin soft and dry free.
Good Luck

The only other home rememdy that I can think of is ALOE VERA GEL. My husband gets horrible red patches on his face. He even gets it where you can visibly see the skin flaking off. He has tried EVERYTHING TOO! I know that you dont want to spend the money, but if you have dry skin like my hubby it sounds like you are going to have to invest in the good stuff. The only thing that has worked for him is the Mary Kay 3in1 cleanser in conjunction with the age fighting moisturizer. I know it says age fighting but it is the ONLY thing that has taken the patches and dryness and redness away. You can get it cheap on ebay too. I dont ever pay full price for it. If it is on your face, that is what people see all the time, it is worth investing in the good stuff. One thing of the lotion lasts for two months and I usually get it for 10-13 dollars on ebay. I get the cleanser from 10.00 and up. You’ll end up paying just as much for stuff over the counter or trying hom remedies. I promise it is worth it. I am pretty frugal but I dont skimp on that. If he even goes a week without it, all the patches come back.

Use something pure and natural for your face wash, toner (to balance) check the drug store for one – and follow up with a moisturizer and if you wear make up change foundation to tinted moisturizer.

There’s a few things…
1) Use cool water to wash your face, hot water dries out the skin
2) After you get out of the shower or wash your face, don’t dry your face with a towel…let it air dry a little and then put lotion on while it’s still damp-it will help lock in the moisture
3) Try steaming your face-either fill your sink with really hot water or do it over a pot of boiling water that has been removed from the stove. I usually put herbs or a tea bag in my water…not sure if it does anything, but it smells nice. ;-) Put a towel over your head and lean over the steam until your face sweats a little (5 or 10 min. should work). Then moisturize it like in step #2.
4) Switch your soap…try dove, that’s what I use, it won’t dry your skin cause it isn’t really soap, it’s more of a moisturizing bar. Plus, soap is way cheaper than moisturizer (you can buy just one bar to try it, maybe $2-3).
5) Check your lotions to see if they contain alcohol. Alcohol actually dries the skin out a little. Keri makes a lanolin, alcohol, and fragrance free lotion that’s, like, $7-8 if I remember right. It’s a little pricey for lotion, but it’s a good sized bottle…so when you do have a little extra cash, I definately recommend that.
6) I’ve heard that avacado and mayonaise are also good home remedies for dry skin. I’ve used banana and honey and they seemed to work. Couldn’t really hurt to try…
7) Wash your pillowcases in baby detergent…you may even be able to get a free sample online (Or if you have any friends that are pregnant/new moms, they send samples in some take home kits at hospitals). Something like Dreft.
Keep in mind, it’s winter time, so everyone’s skin is a little drier this time of year. Also, you may have sensitive skin…what you think is dry skin, might be irritated. If nothing seems to work, you may need to see a dermitologist, or swith all your makeup and products to sensitive skin formulas.
When you do get the money…here’s a few things to try:
-Pond’s Fresh Start Daily Exfoliating Cleanser-$7
-Boscia Moisture Replenishing Mask-$25
-Dove Deep moisture day cream UVA/UVB screen-$8
Good luck!

Don’t laugh but there is a product call Bag Balm Or you can get what is called Utter cream. Farmers use it to keep the cows utters from getting dry and cracking. And it is amazing stuff for people too!!
